    Always remember when we had some bad snow in the mid/late 80s, can't remember which year, but I was walking to the shops and the only 2 cars on the road were both Ladas.

    I got rid of my trusty 5 series E61 tourer in July after 11 years. 207,000 on the clock and I honestly think it's got another 100k in it.
    I'm missing it already.

    Very good. Didn't Top Gear do something similar a few years ago?

    Interestingly, Russian sailors in the 90's used to make a fortune buying Ladas in the UK for £50-£100, reimporting them to Russia, and selling them for a grand each. There were no import duties as it was a Russian product, so the only expense was switching the steering wheel and pedals round.

    Worked at old British Leyland garage where B&M is now from 16... got to drive all sorts when passed test, from old Mini, to a bloody jag.... favourite was a TR7...
    But had to make do with borrowed Morris Marina from my dad to “show off” in

    My visit to Hull was around the time Top Gear was first broadcast. Perhaps that is what gave the
    salesman I met the idea to soup up a Lada.

    The same bloke apparently put a powerful engine in a Milk float and for a laugh used to bomb up
    and down the side roads in Hull.

    And the best bit after skinning several knuckles following the instructions to remove for example a cylinder head - Installation is a reverse of the above :)
    They have gone online but if I put in my current car all I get is a message saying they dont have a manual for my car yet.

    Triumph Spitfire 1.5l twin pot carbs in days when insurance was just affordable spent more time in garage than on road good old British quality in the many years I can say only cars I have had issues with are British, Austin Allaggro! Mini Metro and land rover All foreign build no issues Inc 5! Alfa's

    A 1968 Ford Escort AHE 72F. I bought it in 1977.
    Its favourite little quirks were 1) as you were driving the tubular metalwork in the drivers seat would break and collapse leaving you floundering either staring up at the roof on your back or hanging on to the steering wheel for dear life, and 2) the gearstick would come off in your hand as you were driving. The reason being that it was held in place in the floor by a nylon screw thread thing which, as the thread was so knackered, would suddenly decide to part company with the floor leaving you waving your gear stick in the air.
