Does anyone else think it’s a disgrace that communities seem to have been left to it ? I think someone commented last night that if the flooding effecting Donny had happened in Surrey the reaction would have been somewhat different.
"Not a national emergency" according to de Pfeffel. Corbyn made the mistake of helping out this weekend like, as he shouldve been at a 40 grand banquet (or Remembrance 'festival', as the elite like to call it), even though he appatently didnt have an invite. But I agree: Donny? Dont matter. Surrey? Serious!
We had one(last Thursday) really bad day of rain, just one, and areas are flooded. I know it's rained on and off for a few weeks but bloody hell, we should be able to cope. I heard an old chap on 5live the other day who used to work the dredges on the river Don and said it was 30 ft deep back in the day but now it's only 8ft deep. Environment agency says dredging isn't cost effective.
Bellwin schemes activated. And to be honest theres not really alot the gov. Can do barring a total overhaul of policy dating back prior to the current shambles.
I thought it was the tree huggers and conservationists that didn't want dredging as it damaged habitats. The newts and Frogs have got to be allowed to cross roads.
I think you will find the person who said about Surrey is the same person who urged the government into having the COBRA meeting....I'll let you find that for yourself (on the first page of the BBC website if you need any help )
someone might use this as an analogy for what happens to our area when no one in government actually gives a fukc about it. Someone might also use this as an analogy of what it might be like when the tories possibly gain even more power in month. Someone might use this as an analogy for what happens when an area is underfunded and left to fight for its self utilising the smaller amount of funding it gets from government. Someone.....
A good mate if mine is a project manager building new homes in the area. His first meetings before laying a brick are with, in his words with: Bat Man Toad Man Newt Man Frog Man River man and finally Clipboard council man.
If that's what they are replacing the current Avengers with then the next Marvel phase sounds a bit **** if you ask me.
well it certainly isn't cost effective for them, but what about the poor bleeders with the houses full of water, watching Look North last night what struck me was that the people were having to sort it themselves with little outside help,it's all well and good Harry praising the local community volunteers but where are the council workers, the EA workers even the army to help clear peoples houses. must be awful,
People say dredging is the solution, but there's serious issues with it as per this article https://www.theguardian.com/comment...-floods-somerset-levels-david-cameron-farmers
Them trees eh.... growing massive and sucking all the water up through their roots....not being houses with all that tarmac and stuff.... trees eh.
They've seen 50% of their budget from central government. This October they've had to cut another £17m from it.t It's the third worst hit council in the country. Still, at least the handful of billionaires are doing OK.
we should leave the EU and then vote conservative... talk about doubling down ... that’ll sort it! sorry that’s maybe for a different thread Romsey in Hampshire https://www.dailyecho.co.uk/news/11...in-battle-to-stop-river-test-flooding-romsey/
