I don't think Lee has said anything since promotion last season on his twitter. what does he class as 'working with the fans' ? Getting them to volunteer their time for the fanzone perhaps?

The current situation seems a million miles away from what he proposes to do in that interview.

On the understanding that this is your final question, and the understanding that there will be no more said on this subject, my answer is

I mean the glib answer would be somewhere between still in business, and established at the top of The Championship. We are not really debating what we see as success, are we. We are debating about the best route to arriving there. The new owners believe that this best way to achieve success is via the plan that they have outlined, and I have attempted to explain their reasoning. I have explained in great detail why they believe that their way is the only way to achieve what we all want. They have offered a long term plan that does not have any (known) measures along the way. Those who argue for a different plan are offering short term solutions which try to keep us afloat in the Championship for another season. We have a fundamental mismatch of understanding here. I know what my original aim was when I wrote my stuff, but apparently I am wrong. Apparently the owners are wrong as well. Apparently, everyone is wrong other than those who search for a short term fix. Well I am done with it. I am going to write about something else. Does anyone want to read my 100 page dissertation on potatoes.

Does it say the only way to enjoy them is boiled and every other option is wrong?

I genuinely just wanted to know what you’d consider a 5 and 10 year measure of success to be.

And I genuinely don’t think we are fundamentally miles apart. Nor are others that far away. Which is maybe why some may feel frustrated that a tweak isn’t considered a reasonable thing to do,all within the parameters of sustainability which is widely accepted among fans (I perceive).

I enjoy your posts. We don’t agree 100% all the time, but there are things we do agree on.

So what is your connection with the owners, Red Rain? I am coming to the view that you would not continue to be such an apologist for their way of doing things without some sort of connection - even if that is with officers who are still in post but who pre-date the arrival of the new owners.

It says on my profile that I have been a member since 2005. I know that some spies sleep for a while, but 14 years is a bit extreme isn't it.

Boiling isn’t cost effective as it uses power. Taste is unimportant. They should be nibbled raw.

We're well and truly internationalised and no mistake. Asia, India, China... Where are the new shirt sponsors from again? Oh yeah, Mapp.

I finally got around to reading this thread. Very interesting. Whilst you may refer to Red Rain as an apologist for the owners and their plan, I see him more as someone attempting to explain their plan. He has the patience to see if it works, many don’t.

Let’s be honest, football has changed immeasurably over the last decade and money has transformed Barnsley’s position in its hierarchy. With finances as they currently stand and the EFL making little attempt to fully reel in the crazy spending of clubs in the second tier, Barnsley cannot compete. Another method is needed to try to compete. This is it. It may not work, early evidence isn’t exactly reassuring!

However, until Barnsley find a megabucks benefactor willing to splash enormous amounts of cash, they have to try a different method. It seems to me that it relies on finding the right young talent and is heavily reliant on a very astute recruitment team. Their performance so far may be questioned, but who knows, in two years time these lads may have developed, we might be back in the second tier and more competitive?

Personally I doubt that will happen and the third tier will probably be our more realistic level. Time will tell.

We dont want or need them to splash megabucks tho, just a few championship quality players sprinkled in with the youngsters wev signed would be perfectly reasonable. We have received enough in transfer fees for that to have happened. Would two or three championship quality loans really have derailed the plan??

Red Rain's collection of finance articles have been good reads. I agree with much of what he's explaining. And as I've said a million times, I buy into the strategy that the club have gone with. But what I disagreed with at the time and even more so now, is the extreme version of it that came into practice this summer gone.

No problem with the youngsters who arrived. But we were crying out for a few tried and tested Championship players.

I also believe we failed at all to recruit in certain areas. We got lost signing wingers and ignored the full back positions and target men.

I genuinely believe a target man with plenty of games under him, a central defender of similar experience and one or two good quality full backs would have seen us closer to 18 points rather than 9.

I might be wrong. Who knows? Nobody. But it's the opinion of every man and his dog barring those involved in recruitment.

It will take a genius tactician or some alteration to the strategy in January to keep this team up.

What I and it seems others disagree with Red Rain on is the cost of some proven players at the level. I don't believe the signings I suggested would have made much of a difference to our budget. I'd have not signed Wilks for a kick off. That's over a million in fee and whatever in wages saved right there.
