It's a funny one this as I don't want to start a rumour that could turn out to be completely false, but yesterday I had it confirmed that Stern would be staying on as part of the first team coaching staff, as would Dale Tonge.

Then the news breaks, the new gaffers in. Great. Then we get the 'changes to the coaching staff' story which confirms Sterns exit from the club. This could quite easily be my good pal getting something wrong, it happens. However, with the way the owners have acted over the last few months there's something making me want to ask the question, was Stern aware that he would be leaving the club? Or have the owners just said their goodbyes to him today, unexpected?

Again, I'm not rumour starting. Will Tonge be next? Concerning that, especially as he's a Barnsley lad who can give the new coaches the knowledge regarding the team.

It doesn't surprise me that he's leaving as he was Stendels man. No mention has been made of Dale staying on the 1st team coaching staff so it wouldn't surprise me if he got the boot too.

We should rename our club Oakwell feeder club!

As much as I like Dale, Chris, etc., why is everyone making out that these are some out of the ordinary moves being made by the evil Board?

Nearly every time a new manager comes in, they clean house and bring in their own people.

It's not dissimilar to senior appointments in other lines of work.

I expected Stern to go and said as much the other day.
I also expect Dale to remain

More speculative fuel to add to the fire.

I don't get what the big deal is. No doubt he'll have had his contract paid up, or at least received a decent sum. Tottenham sacked Pochettino yesterday, and all of 'his' staff followed him out the door. It's pretty standard in football.

Could well be right pal. But I'm also sure that somebody in his predicament following the sacking would not be the least bit surprised if he too was to get the chop. Especially with somebody new coming in. It's professional football, this is how it works. For better or worse.

I'm sad to see him go. Would not be surprised if Tonge was next out of the door.

As others have mentioned, it would be stranger if Tonge and Stern stayed in their position. Feel like some posters are trying to make something out of nothing to further fuel their anger at the board.

Fact remains that the staff that helped get his old club the Europa league wins arent the ones that are following him to Oakwell.
All these contracts to pay up plus the new wages. Doesn't seem sound financially to me.

Nor me mate but it lends credit to Stendel being sacked for footballing reasons.

Perhaps after DS went the club and Stern agreed he would stay until a new boss was appointed?

The board take the view if mr X can't get results there is a mr Y that can then maybe a Z.

The board take the view that results are secondary to asset valuation improvement

I think Tonge may well be moved on but I hope they find a job for him in the club. He's done nothing wrong so I hope we keep him in some capacity.

Could we not have announced the new coach joining and Stern leaving in two articles? I think he deserved his own article listing the win rate he was involved in and a run down of his time with us. Instead we sneaked in a few lines for him at the bottom of a article for someone else.

The new manager has got a coach reading the news.
Would think Tonge will be a second coach in team.
He knows the players and the set up.
So cannot see him moving on without he feels he has to

Agree. Personally I don't think it should, unless they're no good, but it does happen at most clubs, we're far from unique here.

Tonge to stay on in some capacity but Murray to leave is my guess.
