    My
The problem I have with your standpoint is that my dad grew up in dulwich, my uncle bought his council house there and made £400k on it when “the attention whores” moved in and didn’t represent the local area at all. It’s historically an area similar to many others where you either had or toiled, a point proven all those years ago when my dad (a binmans lad) was accepted into alleyns school on merit and got his place bought off him by richer parents shoving a kid”who’d watched every single play in London black or white” into a Fleet Street apprenticeship which he continued to frequent what is now known as the underground scene.
You live somewhere interesting by fluke, but don’t piss on my heritage when I’ve got more stories about where you live than you have where I do boy

You’re right, we don’t live in London only visit.... but you only do that to Barnsley. If you lived here now, you’d see a difference. You’d know the bars and restaurants, and the heron haunts...

You’d be surprised in the amount of change that has happened in the last 15 years! And you can do most of that in a 4 hour time slot. Yes, it may be that you nip over the border into Darkest Sheffield or Leeds. Yes, Barnsley won’t have the significant historical attractions, but it’s art and culture budget is distinctly less.

Just like London, there are some areas that are an eyesore.

I am proud of my town. I have lived all around the country and overseas, but Barnsley will always be home. My dad used to say to me, remember where you’re from, because that’s where you were made. And I wouldn’t be the person I am today without it.

I respect your view and thank you for not being vitriolic like others.

I do however fundamentally disagree with where you’re from makes you though. I personally don’t believe that to be the case. It may impact some, bind others, while act as some leverage and catalyst to break its shackles.

I know the latter was the case for me, but if I’d been born in barrow in Furness, Blackpool or Bridlington... I’d still have moved and sought something better.

I’m back up there a fair bit, and to be honest, aside from the centre being a heap of rubble, I’ve not seen any great change. Well, apart from some people who sadly are more vocal about things which are simply abhorrent.

I’ll be interested to see how Barnsley does develop, but I stand by my initial view that those calling hull a **** hole really need to put their stones down and fix their glass windows.

And I agree with you, everywhere has good bits and bad bits, some good bits better than others, some bad bits grim as can be.

Barnsley fans slag off another town, yet can’t take what they throw... there’s a shocker!

Well I've woken up to a beautiful day. Happy and healthy, as are my family. And at the end of the day that's what matters. (But I'd rather wake up in Barnsley than London or Hull!)

And that speaks volumes about your attitude in this thread.

I’ve lived and been a part of London for longer than your 13 years. Pretty much 50% of my life, and as much as I could brag about the pubs, bars, restaurants, events and everything else I’ve done in the past, and will do in the future, I would never use that as a stick to try and beat down the town of Barnsley.

Without being overly critical or personal, your attitude in this whole thread has been appalling. Naturally you’re entitled to an opinion, but that doesn’t have to mean looking down your nose at the home of your football club and the home of a significant number of people on this board.

Also, for the sake of the industry I work in, can you try and not make those who go searching for experiential beers look like a bunch of t***s? Beer should always be inclusive.

Great post Loko which certainly sums up my feelings as do many other posts in this thread.
I've lived in different places and travelled fairly extensively but I would never disrespect my home town and my heritage in the way that this man does. Incidentally, nor would my daughters who live in London and Edinburgh.
The fact is that DWLC always has to have the last word and, despite what he says, he doesn't really respect anyones opinion other than his own.
he could just be an ultimate wind up merchant sitting in his Dulwich heaven laughing at those of us who get provoked by his messages.
Or....he could actually think that he's right all the time, has no humility and is superior, more intelligent and worldly wise than the rest of us.
We'll never know but in this particular case I know where I, and many others, stand who have PMd me with their views on his posts.

Show me where. I’ve slagged off any town. Don’t get involved because it’s futile. But said it before. probably a thread on every fans site with similar comments. But to see comments like yours. take the biscuit. I take back what I said. you don’t appear an arse. You are an arse and far worse than those you appear to criticise.

Think the changes to the town are looking fantastic and will improve the town no end. Read a lot of fb Barnsley groups and it seems to be full of locals complaining about the changes- the town definitely needed them. Barnsley needed moving into 21st century and they are heading in the right direction. Liverpool took the plunge with new shopping centre etc and it made a big difference - hopefully new development will regenerate the town centre. As almost an outsider people of Barnsley have a lot to be proud of

Wondered how this thread had dragged on so many pages so opened the last page out of context, read this post and could not stop howling. People don’t half get carried away.

I've lived in Egham Surrey for 27 years after living in Elsecar for 37 years and still miss the place and the people. In my case absence certainly makes the heart grow fonder but I moved for domestic reasons and can't deny I've had a great life so far down here. Still wouldn't knock tarn though as like down here there are good parts and slightly iffy parts but it's all part of lifes rich tapestry and I'll never knock where I come from. My niece has moved into Old Row and it's lovely in that part of Elsecar with the woods nearby and Wentworth and Elsecar Park nearby
