I backed Stendel. However, if this is true then it is totally disgusting behaviour on his part. Whether or not he was being hung out to dry in the transfer market and asking for experience etc. For him to open negotiations with another club and secretly approach other members of staff regarding following him to this new club without the permission of his current employers is downright rude, unprofessional and a real slap in the face to every single one of the fans who stuck by him, drank with him infact. The board let him down badly, there is no getting away from that but what Stendel has done is frankly illegal. Such a shame.
Well we’ve been through this b@ll@cks in the past on the board and despite numerous posts and ‘OPINIONS ‘ or guesses or just made up ‘facts’ no one has yet to post anything that proves so called profiteering or anything financially different to the Cryne era . The recruitment hasn’t worked out in the short term , that’s obvious but to say the Consortium deliberately weakened the team is just tosh , Kiefer Moore has admitted he went for his own financial gain , the others wouldn’t sign extended contracts and we ended up getting a reasonable amount for their talents . you may have written the players off already , I’m still planning on going to Brentford away
I don't think it's illegal at all. Just about everyone who ever changes jobs starts looking while they're under contract in their current job, and they fill in applications, go for interviews etc. Often it's because they're unhappy in their current job, underpaid, undervalued or whatever. Only when they've successfully received an offer for a new job do they actually hand their notice in. I do realise football is rather different to the normal work situation, but I think to say it's illegal is a bit strong.
I don't think it's contradicting at all to be quite honest. I think they handled it very poorly but it's perfectly logical for it to be both of those reasons. There are obvious legal issues regardless of whether it was out of respect too.
We speculated that DS probably wanted out due to his prolonged reticence to extend his contract with us, so it shouldn't have come as a surprise to find out, that he was on the radar of another Club. Where he went wrong of course, was not asking the Barnsley Boards permission to speak to the Club concerned. If he had, there could have possibly been three possible outcomes. Firstly, he could have been given permission and left after we recieved compensation. He could however have used it as a bargaining tool to test the Boards resolve and secured an improved contract and a promise of experienced additions in January, or if the Board had other " issues" with him, they could have cited those as a reason to move him on. It now seems apparent he's gone behind the Boards back which is a flagrant breach and in truth justifies his dismissal, but it's a surprise that our Board didn't put the matter before the EFL for them to mediate and impose an appropriate fine on the Club involved in " tapping" him up. The whole matter has been handled very badly and has done quite a lot of reputational damage and it can only be hoped that lessons have been learned for the future.?
Talk about nit-picking. The tapping up of a manager or players without the permission of the club they are contracted to is a breach of EFL rules (EFL Regulations Section 63). Not illegal correct, but a breach for sure. On a side note, I have to say that this nit-picking on this board is getting tiresome. People pulling other people up on spellings and grammar, it is so childish. I believe you knew precisely what I meant but felt the need to post a one sentence reply sniping at me to make yourself appear better than me in some way. Have a quick read through and let me know if there are any spelling mistakes wont you? Ofcorse you will.
They normally don't say anything to their current employer so as to avoid any " repercussions" in case they are not successful, re- resentment, passed by for future promotion, involuntary redundancy etc. Given there were allegedly " other" issues, in his case, DS might have thought it best not to say anything, but such a move has obviously backfired on him and the Board saw fit to get rid. It still doesn't excuse the fact that after his exploits the previous season, our Board showed a total lack of class by not printing an acknowledgement in the local press or our Matchday magazine. As it stands it looks as though he's been airbrushed from the Clubs history.
I'll wait until Daniel comments about this. If it was true why didn't he go to this other Championship Club? Why did Dale Tong only leave the other week?
I think spelling Stendel wrong is pretty basic, if that is what you are referring to. I have to confess to being a bit of a semantic warrior, but getting someone's name right is politeness at least.
Wasn't there a similar furore when we took Johnson from Oldham? Who contacted who? Wasn't Johnson applying for other jobs whilst at BFC? Ambitions not an entirely new concept.
In 48 Championship games in total for Ipswich, Barnsley and Wigan, Moore has scored 6 goals, one of them a penalty. He has 2 in 17 for Wigan He wanted to leave and had no track record at this level We got 3.5 million for him Good bit of business I think. As for the Stendel statement I think Conway couldn't lie straight in bed, conradicts himself often, and I believe used the "tapping up" of Daniel by Huddersfield (or whoever) as a vehicle for getting rid of a troublesome manager who was making noises the board didn't want to hear. Tapping up is not uncommon, people making exploratory calls to managers to ascertain their current status, as well as between players and agents. May be in breach of regulations but not illegal. Stendel maybe could have reported it to the board, we can only speculate why he didn't, daft lad I cannot believe that he made an approach to a rival and offered his services and that of his backroom team-just don't believe it. Somewhere in this mess will lurk the truth but I don't think it is all Conway's version
Agree with 95% of that (like the budget we have left to spend in jan! ha ha). The business with Moore is only good business if you have a half decent replacement to come in.....we had £3.5 million in and........oh nothing!!
We got less than 3million for moore, my issue wasnt selling him it was the time of the sale 4 days before the window shut and not replacing him. It left us with no one up top who can hold the ball up.
