But ironically has the joint 3rd most assists in the league for a team in the bottom 3

Its the biggest IF in the history of IFS, no way will we get back into the premiership with this board unless they tinker with the spreadsheet plan. Not that im that bothered really, the championship is our natural level, but thats getting less likely as football continues to spiral out of control. Im interested to know from what youve seen and heard from this board so far, that you actually thought it plausable that they may spend 5m on a player. I think, ironically, weve never had a board with so much wealth but at the same time less liklehood of breaking our 23 year old transfer record, never mind 5m.

I remember when we wanted £10m for Brian Howard, and sold him for £250k-£500k.

Yeah that was shocking. We got ten million for Stones after his sell on but Cauley should be our first ever outright ten million pound man.

Just had a quick look at Transfermarket at their record with Nice (disclaimer as was quick look so not double checked).
In the years before they joined it seems the incoming purchases was a lot lower than I imagined they would be.
You can actually see year on year their purchase value increased with million + purchases, this then increased to 4 and even 9 million.
It’s fair to say the Nice situation may or may not be different to us (Champions league etc), and this was balanced by some bigger departures, but it does show they will spend if they see the potential. It also supports their official approach of gradual.

It’s not a case of whether this board has made any noises about spending five million if we get into premier there’ll have to spend five million at least on a player .
Your stating your opinions as almost facts , I know it’s a big if but your saying never! at least I’m saying if.
The spreadsheet sheet has been tinkered with , only this week we’ve signed a loan player which the board said they’d never do .
I’m not saying we’ll get to premier but I think the board have set out a different route from other clubs if trying to get there . your opinion of we won’t ever get to prem or spend five million under this board is just that an opinion and my opinion is if we do get to prem under this board they will spend five million on a player .

I agree. Dame Edna said in his interview before the Brentford match on Sky Sports that the ambition is the Premier League but we want to do it differently.

Exactly so .theyll have to spend bigger than five million .
It’s a big statement for OOScooper that this board will never spend five million and that they won’t get into prem .
My opinion is they will try and get to prem otherwise why invest ? But they’ll go a different route to the directors who put the club at risk to get there .
And if we do get there they will spend five million plus on one player .

We wont get to the premier league loaning second tier austrian youngsters in my opinion. The league is just too unforgiving. Like i said, that doesent bother me but my point is nothing this board has done so far has convinced me were going to be nothing other than a yo yo club between championship and lg1. We seem to have a thing for austrian players at minute and thats mainly cos theyre cheap but yet to see the fascination. We seem to buy players with no discernable pedigree because of the value and i get that, but dont be surprised when it takes them ages to get up to speed, and when they do, we sell em. Think its a good ethos for making money but not for great success on the pitch. Time will tell, when we spend 5m on a player, i will hold my hands up, but ill probably be too old to do that by then.

We’d only get ten million or near that amount if they have a good length left on their contract .
So imo we’d have to sell in next year or so to get anywhere near that . I could be wrong but that’s usually how it works .

I was fascinated when an Austrian finally got us to win games of football again. Fascinating watching an Austrian score in the 93rd minute at Millwall too. Hope our experienced Austrian midfield man has a great debut on Saturday. And that the English, Danish, Kenyan, German and Spanish lads perform well too.

Are you sure our fascination with Austrian players is because they're cheap OR is it because that's where the manager has extensive knowledge of AND the players we are bringing in know what system we play so it lessens the transition period for both club and player?

If we can survive this season and build each year, I could see that figure in the Championship for exactly the reason of the Premier.
Realistically I see ‘the plan’ probably being as a minimum a 5 year one from now. Stay up and gradually climb each season, spend a couple of seasons flirting with playoffs and then go for it.
The big problem though is it probably won’t be enough because there are too many other teams in this league willing to throw sums like that round so we become one of many trying for 3 spots each year.
