for the match and to check up on my mate who I'm quite worried about, he had bowel cancer in the 1990s and had been having a few problems so had some sort of procedure in November. He lives on his own, and is a very private and proudly independent type and hasn't got any family down there, he's from Liverpool and hasn't got much family left there either, just a couple of cousins I think. Anyway he wasn't communicating so I planned to go to the match. Monday night put paid to that, I was cycling home from work and had a spectacular fight with a bush which was overhanging the road resulting in a cracked skull, broken shoulder blade and several cracked ribs. I'm in Burton hospital now hoping to go home today. Such is life....
I know I shouldn't attempt humour in this context, but couldn't resist a titter at this But seriously, hope you're ok and make a quick recovery!
I'm assuming that the bush escaped unharmed? Sounds like a nasty accident, hope you're on the mend mate.
Much appreciated mate, I've been trying to make light of it all. At least I'm up and about now, had a shave and brushed my teeth in the bathroom walking on my own. Feel a little dizzy at times but only to be expected. I've got a right shiner on my left eye, look like I've done ten rounds with Henry Cooper.
A mate of mine went into a bar last night and asked the barmaid for a double entendre, so she gave him one.
Good idea, a few weeks back I was phoning the hospitals but none of them had him as an inpatient. He did text me just before Christmas and again a couple of weeks ago.
Cant believe you're wasting time in here when you should be sorting out your compensation claim. Seriously though, all the best for a speedy recovery. Then go out there and give that bush a damn good thrashing!
Proper good on you for trying to look out for him even from afar. Single people far too easily get forgotten then fall through the cracks, both in the system and in society at large.
Good to see you're on the mend mate, maybe change your user name as you have just had a " Brush with death" joking aside, get well soon
Thanks for the heads up - I'll watch out for the new demons - do they work in isolation or are they in a group like the dirty dozen or the magnificent seven? I cycle frequently & I there are many many hazards, motorists who are discourteous (cue the barrage of Hamilton wannabes) and of course the unkempt cycle ways where obstacles such as overhanging branches that give yer a cuff better than yer old man ever used to, skid patches where there's enough of a frosting in cold weather or aquaplaning where there's a gathering of water, hiding holes/craters ever ready and willing to eject you from relative safety of your machine. In all seriousness I hope you you are on the road to recovery (pun was intended by the way) and I hope it doesn't put you off cycling.
