Normally I would agree but Stokes involved in 10 wickets ( bowler for the last 3 and catches for the other 7) decent knocks in both innings and gave us the boost to allow a declaration in time (Just...) Both players were vital but for me Stokes was involved all over the place not just one innings
This is some stat....... http://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/en...ets;template=results;type=allround;view=match Only the third guy in the history of test cricket to get 6 catches, 100 runs and 3 wickets in a game.
What an amazing finish that was. Test match cricket is the greatest and hardest form of the sport. The pitch was as dead as a dodo and flatter than a table top. Ben Stokes is simply a phenomenon. Special mention to Broad and Anderson who ran through brick walls for the cause.
Anderson ruled out for 6-8 weeks. It would take an extraordinary level of hunger for someone with 151 test matches to put himself through another two months of physio to allow him to play on dustbowls in Sri Lanka
Aye, sod that. If I'm him, I concentrate on getting fit for the summer and the have a glorious retirement after taking my 600th test wicket sometime this summer.
Real shame as he bowled really well first innings in the last test. If I was him I would scratch the Sri Lanka tour as well Still it at least solves who to drop to bring back Archer who should be fit for the next test
It would be best all round if he retired after the English summer. The ECB need to look to the future and Jimmy deserves to enjoy retirement without watching his body break down regularly and having to do rehab so often.
Seems the loan Dom Bess had at Yorkshire has really helped him The forecast doesn't look too good so let's just hope rain doesn't stop us going 2-1 up. Pope is the 8th youngest to get a debut century and it's only his 6th test. Some player in the making.
Play due to resume at 13:25, weather permitting. The delay might actually increase our chance of winning as it makes it more likely that we'll enforce the follow-on.
Never mind England cricket, what about SA cricket? What a start to the fourth day of a test you probably only need 92 runs to save.
Brilliant start from England. I loved the wicket that Sam Curran took. Three quarters of the way up the middle stump, both bails cartwheeling away simoultaniously, while the ball dropped where the vacant stump should have been. Perfect.
Wow, thought I'd have a lie in and missed the final four wickets to fall! Brilliant start to the day for England but appalling batting from SA!
Strong win is that despite it lasting longer than it should have. Lots of guys in their early 20s who if they improve together, can play together in this side for 10+ years.
Quite possibly the worst South African test team i have seen. But take nothing away from this young England team.
Overall, an excellent win against poor opposition. Disappointing to see that level of self indulgence from Root this morning.
Hunting personally glory it seems rather than getting the job done sooner was embarrassing. No "i" in team.
