Gave himself by far the most overs to try and get five wickets, instead of letting the fast bowlers finish the game.
Blooding the youth. Good future at last for England Sibley Pope Curran Bess Plus Archer hopefully next match.
We won by an innings and 53 runs, what more do people want ? Superb captaincy throughout by Root. I reckon he was just giving the fans that turned up today, a bit of fun .
Was all for him starting the day bowling, but was quickly apparent that he wasn't going to be the one to get the wickets. Could've at least had Bess bowl from the end where all but one of the spinners' wickets were taken.
Mate, the game was won over the first 4 days .Root totally out captained Du Plessis throughout the test match. Today was just a formality really and a bit of a spectacle for the fans. Great win for England.
I said it was an excellent win. Just that the self indulgence was disappointing. In the same way it's disappointing to see someone bat for a red ink when pushing for a declaration.
Up to third in the world..... https://www.espncricinfo.com/table/series/19430/season/2019/icc-world-test-championship Not bad when one of the teams above could only draw last summer.
Didn't say owt negative. We have had a sickness bug, lost Archer.Anderson and Burns to injury and Leach to ill health and won back to back tests overseas. It's good.
I wasn't criticising you at all, just the usual negativity from some. Even after a superb comprehensive win away from home with our two front line bowlers out , some people are still 'disappointed ' . Can't win 'em all .
When all fit this Summer Burns Sibley Denly Root Stokes Pope Buttler Curran Bess Broad Archer/Anderson
I think there could be quite a bit of rotation in the bowlers, similar to how Australia managed their seamers in the summer. Anderson, Broad, Archer, Wood, Stone, Curran and Woakes all competing for three places when fit.
Joe Root has captained well and even better he seems to have lucleared on his side when other conmessage of winning the toss!
We are well on top I feel. Has to be the last test Jos plays for us though as he hasn't the brain for the long form of the game and has been given more chances than he deserves, especially compared to Bairstow.
