Likely to be named in the next England squad. Do we get a fee if he makes an international appearance?

Sell on fees in there like Stones - we must have ended up with nearly 10 million for him

Surprised at this, I could tell he had abit whilst he was here but never in a million years would I think he could’ve played for England.

    Good luck to him.

Talking to my mates wife before the Hudds game while he was getting ready and she commented that every time Match of the Day is on he’s always saying ‘he used to play for us’ wonder how many ex reds there are in the prem currently.

No, we couldn’t have thought he’d ever play for England cos we didn’t see too much of him,,, he couldn’t f**k off quick enough when interest from on high was shown.

Exactly he wouldnt sign a new deal and we were set to lose him in the summer at a tribunal had we not sold for cheap to get the add on fees etc. Hope he does well but like you say couldnt get away fast enough when Everton and Bournemouth were interested.

Surprised at some of the comments on here at this. If you are young, talented and ambitious, surely you are going to make a move that benefits you and your career? He has been proved right by being mentioned as an imminent international.

Of course, anyone with an ounce of common sense knows he would have been better suited staying at Barnsley til he was 31 on £500 / week .......... FGS.

Some folk need to google "crabs in a bucket".

He played a similar amount of games to John Stones, 22 compared to 28 (in all competitions).

Take your red tinted specs off for a second, do you really think it was even slightly in his interests to stay with us?

Was in Benidorm a few years back and talking to some Everton fans, they all rated him better than stones

I still believe that Holgate wasn't as good as Bree, but look at the difference in their careers.

I thought Bree was fantastic. In fact, I put £50 on him to be in the 2018 World Cup squad for England (this was back when he was about 16) and got some ridiculous odds of like 5000/1 or something. Obviously didn't win, though...

I thought Paul Digby had potential to make it to a high level.

    What do I know?

And I reckon he’s regretted that decision for about 0.00 milliseconds afterwards.

It might not have suited your very specific agenda but for Mason Holgate it was 100% the right thing to do and I for one have absolutely no ill feeling towards the lad, more proud of the fact another of our academy has gone on to do so well. Why do we only make defenders? They’ve even tried turning Jacob Brown into a full back at times!!

Young players are highly unpredictable. To be fair the club has a good record identifying good performers. Our record of getting good fees for some is more of a problem. Pinnock being a prime example.
