Stewards are getting a rough time in this thread. In their defence I don't think there's a bigger away allocation in the division than Oakwell? or if there is it certainly aint that many. even with the reduced capacity. Before we worry about the away fans id like to see the club sort out areas of the home end where we cant sell seats, for example where I sit in block OR1 of the ponty they don't let anyone sit there aside us with season tickets, not a fan of this really. Also the east stand lower near the North stand. And obviously the full half of the west stand.
Again as I understand this the police don't make this decision the club do. The Police advise the club and presumably if we don't follow the advice the police costs will be higher. So when a game is on Sky the tv money outweighs the police cost. When it isn't we just go with the police advice to avoid the increased cost.
I think to police a 6,000 away following narrdays would mean us having to ship coppers in from Ireland and beyond.
Exactly the same reasons. We don't sell the east stand near North stand because we are unable to properly police it. Don't sell top corner of ponty because we are unable to stop trouble. Perhaps it would be more cost effective to use a stewarding company who has a track record of stopping trouble at other grounds who don't have to leave thousands of seats empty.isbt a sell out in our 23000 seater stadium about 17000 these days? That's just unacceptable
Knock down the north stand and replace it with an old pit stack. Away fans would have to bring their own fold up chairs for safety reasons. Sorted.
Looks like Wednesday have sold their full allocation. They will be supported by 4,177 fans at the derby on the 8 th February. Hope we don't draw tomorrow because any replay would be on the 5 th or 6 th which doesn't give us much recovery time.
https://www.swfc.co.uk/news/2020/january/barnsley-allocation-sold-out/ A nice five figure sum of cash we are missing out on from such a low allocation. Can see a time when we move away from Oakwell so our ground is capable of selling every seat.
The situation wouldn't change elsewhere, as we still wouldn't a) engage a good enough security firm and b) we wouldn't pay for enough of them
