https://www.peterboroughtoday.co.uk...-head-go-volcano-unreasonable-demands-1383133 Goes to show what clubs have to put up with when players hold them to ransom. Instead of getting a couple of million for Maddison they have ended up with a couple of hundred thousand at most.
" We are sick of selling our best players and if they do go we want a King’s ransom for them." Sorry Darragh, that is NOT the way forward. You have to sell your best players for next to nothing and then drop down the league. It's called a "Plan". Repeat after me... "A Plan".
This article actually proves the opposite, though, doesn't it? If you don't sell, you'll end up getting almost nothing for a wantaway player, as is the case with Maddison. Sooooooo... Zinnnnnnnnnnng!! What a takedown. I can't wait to get online on Saturday: pre-match to slag the line-up off; during the match when they try but aren't good enough; and then after the match. Ohhh, that's my favourite bit. Who is everyone looking forward to slagging off the most? I'm gonna tear into Thomas on Saturday, I reckon. God I hope he has a bad game. CANNOT WAIT.
Not really. He's established that he's willing to let a contract run down. So when clubs come in and he refuses to sell they will know he's not bluffing. He might have lost a mil or 2 here, but the precedent and credibility established is probably worth more than that in the effect on future transfer negotiations. Contrast that with us, where the board have made it clear that if an offer comes in then we will take the best offer on the table, regardless of whether it is a fair reflection of the player's value.
Whoever's in charge of clubs like Barnsley or Peterborough are going to have to accept that they are primarily selling clubs: 1) helps to stay afloat; 2) almost all decent players are going to want to foook off for better money, and to a bigger club: should the opportunity arise. Keeping that player around against their will seems like a hiding to nothing. I would therefore argue that running down Maddison's contract was clearly a mistake. McAnthony states that the player was rubbish/didn't try from November, and then they had to sell him cut price in January. Sell him in the summer for more money and less disruption.
A lot of folks don't like Darragh because he tends to speak his mind. I don't mind him at all, he always has his clubs best interest as priority. Shown it again, telling Toney he was staying until the summer.
I agree to a point, however he's getting decent money, buying cheap (relatively so) and then Posh just end up in League 1 year upon year There's no progression as a club whatsoever
Did you read the bit where he stopped trying so they had to ditch him in January for less money then his release clause?
What, making sure they weren't exempt from standard employment contract law? Sure, it gave players more power but to be honest, it's a surprise they got away with it for so long.
