Some memories there - back passes that the keeper picks up, contested drop balls, short shorts some things dont change much though - us losing at loftus road and the stat that we always concede away from home seemed somewhat familiar
I was at that. Staying with my Barnsley-born auntie in Kilburn. Remember getting the bus down Edgware Road then first time on the tube. Still got the programme somewhere...
I was at that game. The reason it was one of the few matches to escape the weather was the plastic surface that QPR had at the time. Had it been on grass they quite possibly wouldn't have scored. Bobby Horn had gone down to smother it but the ball bounced up in a way that it wouldn't on a grass surface and bounced over him. The terrace at Loftus Road was closed and the Reds fans were moved to the seats above the standing area.
I also went I recall it was on match of the day as well.I remember some Barnsley fans pinching tea cakes from the burger bar and throwing them down at the home fans.
Yes we lost 1-0. Intrigued with the badge shown on the team sheet at the beginning. Don't recognise it. All I remember before the one we have now, is the Well, and the White Rose. Have we ever had an image of Toby Tyke on our shirts.?
Looks really treacherous conditions, but as Brewery Stander has said, it probably survived because it was an artificial pitch. Remember two away games I attended being abandoned due to ice on the pitch. One was against Oldham Athletic. Never known cold like I felt that day. The other was against Middlesbrough at Ayresome Park. Super John played on the wing for them that day. Little did we know that in the future, he would be in the Barnsley team who memorably got us promoted to the Premiership.
I was there, the league program was decimated by the weather, this game was only played because of the plastic pitch. Their goal was also a result of the pitch, Bobby Horn had it covered for a comfortable save but for the outrageous bounce.
Add me to the roll call. All i remember is the ball bouncing up over Horn for their winner. Nice to see some more footage of Ronnie and that great team.
