Another poster mentioned it but it's not to our strengths, players out of position, woodrow as a no10 and mowatt deep infront of the back 4. He wont change it though.
No he won’t. Definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again to get the same result. Moronic really....
Have to massively agree. A starting formation is fine. Under Brian Clough Forest always played 4-3-3. For most of that time Forest had better players than the opposition. This is where are rigid formation falls down for us. We don't & it is the final nail in the coffin of a terrible season. We have some great young players, that many are writing off, but the owners of the club are fully to blame. We are so far adrift, it is embarrassing & they don't say a ******* word.
We’ll not hear a peep until Dane pens his piece at the end of March to rally the faithful for ST renewal. Looking forward to that......should be a good laugh.
It worked for 1st couple of games but weve been found out now and teams can simply counter it. No width so they pack the middle of field like brum did and our players aren't good enough to pick a way thru. If they open up like Qpr we do fine but not many teams are daft enough to do it. And if they keep chippin away they know our defense will make a mistake and they will score. Happens every game...
Somebody said yesterday that it’s the worst BFC side they’ve ever seen. I wouldn’t say that, because I’ve seen some very poor sides and we have got some very good players. I would say however that this is one of the most disorganised sides I’ve seen. We’ve tried the diamond before and I’ve never seen it done well. A congested midfield, no width and no space anywhere on the field. A decent formation to get draws unless you’ve got a s*** defence. Oh I forgot, we’ve got a s*** defence, in which case you lose the game. I feel sorry for Struber in the defence he’s been given, but I haven’t seen anything to convince me that he knows how to change a game.
Sorry to come back again on this, but another point just occurred to me. Another thing that the diamond gives you is some very flattering match stats. Possession, shots, shots on goal etc. Thing is that match stats don’t measure effectiveness on the field. Shots on target when you’ve no quality finishers, they also don’t tell whether your going to gift the opposition one, or two goals a game. I’m sick of hearing how we’re dominating games and losing. The only way to dominate a game is to score more goals than the other team.
The diamond may not be the best formation for us, but it isn't why we are where we are. In my opinion it's because we lost Pinnock and replaced him with Andersen; we didn't have a positionally aware left back until Xmas; and because we played a suicidally high defensive line under Stendel. We could have been where Huddersfield or Charlton are now - probably not higher though - and have a fair chance of staying up.
Who is this Dane fella? I keep seeing his name pop up on here but I’ve never heard anything from the man himself.
We have no width at all (except when Brown decides to drift towards the wing). Birmingham packed out the middle and coped easily with us.
The diamond is a nonsense concept, that coaches like to trot out to make themselves look clever. If we were playing well, we'd have midfielders that can control that area of the pitch, allowing Woodrow to spend the majority of time within 25 yards of the opponents goal. And we'd see it as a 4-3-3. Problem is, within the midfield three, we tend to have a central defender and a young winger. Add to that the importance of the full backs in this system, and the fact we don't have any that are good enough for that role, then you have to question the logic of us playing it. We should either be 4-4-2 or 4-5-1. We played a significant number of games last season with three out of Mowatt, Dougall, McGeehan and Bahre in the middle, with wingers outside them and Woodrow up front. Surely that's a better formation for the players we have at the moment.
The diamond, like any formation, depends on the players playing in it. The problem is we’ve got half of our team playing out of position so it’s not working. A decent manager adapts to his squad, something Struber has failed to do so far.
We had the system in mind before the season started. It was 4-5-1 or 4-3-3. That's why we signed winger strikers like Chaplin, Thomas and Wilks. We already had Thiam and Brown to play that system. That's the reason I don't think we replaced Kieffer Moore properly. We gambled on Woodrow staying fit. However, when Struber took over he had his own system and no out and out strikers except Woodrow. As Woodrow had more skill and was better on the ball he was moved to the tip of the diamond. Where I do blame Struber is him not signing an out and out striker in the january window.
