Home and away fans sharing turnstiles

I was sat to the right of the main Barnsley fans. Nearest I could get when buying a ticket in London. Spent the game being taunted by my own fans and thanks to the b****** who threw a coke bottle at me with an 8 year old.

 

Gary Pierce was injured early on and Glyn Riley replaced him.

 

Obviously I didn't remember it that well.

 

I was there aswell. Went top of the league until the Saturday matches. Just out of interest was one of your mates a young black lad from Stafford. I was talking to him and he was bemoaning not having a club to support as he thought it was fantastic. My second favourite away day of all time

 

No, one was a Geordie who supported the Toon and the other was a lad from Brum who was a Villa fan. I remember picking up a programme that night and there was a piece in there asking any Reds fans living in London or the South East if they were interested in forming a London branch of the Supporters Club. I was one of the first members of the Branch.

 

I remember when you could stand where you liked in all grounds. At Oakwell you could watch the first half from the Spion Kop then walk round to the Ponty end for the Second. No segregation of fans.

Are you the one that you can see clapping in the home end on the highlights when the 3rd goal goes in?

 

A couple of weeks ago, I went to watch my first non-league game (Guernsey vs Hayward Heath Town), which had the fans walking around the pitch at half time, a bar with views over the patch and no segregation of fans - although not many would have made the trip from the mainland.

I was almost impressed with one of the substitutes for HH though - Raheem Sterling(-Parker)!

 

Remember going to Stockport and having to walk I front of home fans to get to our seats

 

I remember a game against Rotherham; a lot of my school mates were Millers and we met up on the halfway line in the Brewery stand for a chat at half time. Not a hint of trouble.

 

They’ve still not got dog turnstiles though.

 

Don't know about that I was about 5 rows from the back and cheering like f*** when we scored. Didn't make any difference. I was as happy as everybody else until somebody thought it was a good idea to throw a bottle. We left 10 minutes from the end to protect the child. I know it's hard sometimes but if somebody does something like that they should be reported. Then we might be fit to use mixed turnstiles.
Had a pleasant chat to another Barnsley fan on the way out on the subject of better defending and finding row z.

 

I remember going to Stockport in 2004/5 and going into the terrace behind the goal and it starting to snow and the stewards opening a gate to the side stand and the Barnsley supporters staying behind the goal in the sleet and snow.

I think we drew that game 2-2 and feeling robbed that we'd not won due to a retaken penalty. (That happened away at Bradford City too that season).

 

During our promotion year in the late 60s it was like the migration of the wildebeest on the Serengeti at half time. However, when the weather was inclement most people stayed undercover at the Kop end of the Brewery Stand (paddock).
