A County Cup game against Sheffield United during the 1970/71 season. About eighteen months earlier, we'd lost 9-0 to them at Bramall Lane and they were promoted to the First Division at the end of the 1970/71 campaign, whilst we finished mid table in the Third Division. We were quickly 2-0 down, but hit back to win 3-2, with Eddie Loyden scoring a hat trick. In true Barnsley style, we sold Loyden to Chester the very next day for about £3000.
I remember that game. First time I sat in the Main Stand (now the West stand). I remember being exhilarated, but gutted the next day. As you say, true Barnsley style.
We were on holiday near Filey and went down to Hull for that 3-2 game. We'd lost the opener against Cardiff and feared the worst at 2 down but it was a great comeback. One for me was September 2004 away at Huddersfield. On a lovely sunny day and in front of a full away end we won 2-0. Barry Conlon scored early for us and then I think it was an own goal soon after. It was early days under Paul Hart and I remember buzzing in school the following week thinking we were in for a top season and Conlon would be a goal machine... The opening day that season was at MK Dons on the warmest day I can recall being at a match. They even ran out of pop at one stage. It was at the National Hockey stadium and when we scored a rather drunk fan sauntered onto the pitch to celebrate and then sauntered back into the stand, different times and security standards! Also a quick mention for Southend away on a glorious April day in 2007. Kyle Reid and Nardiello scored to give us a huge three points in our battle for survival.
It was I was there - Aldridge got 3 could have been 4. Think we had something stupid like 30 shots and scored 1 - they had 6 and scored 6 My memorable game is Rankin getting the winner in the last minute against Brentford - we were in danger of dropping into league 2 so it was a welcome victory
What about Isiah Rankin's late winner against Brentford that kept us safe from relegation, went mental.
