Just to give people the heads-up, who usually park on Osborne Street during match days. My car was vandalised there yesterday. Some scumbags had stolen all the wheel nuts - with the exception of the locking nuts; punctured my front tyre and attempted to rip off my front reg plate. All in broad daylight. Ive parked there for years. Not because I’m unwilling to pay car park fees but because it gives me a quick access home. I know that a lot of Barnsley supporters do the same too. The RAC refused to send anyone. Despite paying for every service, they quoted me £170 saying the don’t cover vandalism. I had to borrow a set of wheel nuts as I knew someone with a similar car fortunately.
Wonder if its possibly residents who may be annoyed about football parking. I only say that as i was reading last week about vandalism agaisnt hospital staff cars who are parking on streets near the hospital but just outside the permit area.
you don’t have a right to park outside your home so why some residents are resorting to this is beyond me
I was thinkling the same. Although it seems a bit counter prductive to immobilise a car for taking up a parking space and prevent it leaving. Then again the lack of logic when authorities clamped vehicles causing an obstruction around London and other towns and cities always seemed obvious, but what do I know?
Just taken a look where Osborne Street is, would assume it's angry / irate resident given the location.
I did consider the same to be honest but never had issues there or heard anything similar. No CCTV either so was completely scuppered! The intent seemed much more than pure vandalism though tbh so you might have a point about the locals. Had it not been for another family member with same make of car I would have had to pay the £170 RAC quoted. Just checked my policy and it says vandalism protection! I’m sure when I phone there’ll be a clause somewhere ☹️
What’s your excess. Also be wary of making any sort of claim for such a small amount. It will go on record and bump your premium up for the next 3 to 5 years even if you have No claims protection. Also can’t you get wheel nuts from Halfords or even eBay for a lot less than that? Still very sorry for you. I’m guessing it’s an irate resident but no cctv or witness you have no chance of proving anything.
Sounds to me like somebody's read the story in the Comical about vandalised cars near the hospital (or had it read to them) and decided they were having some of that.
As somebody who lives 200 yards from the ground I've got to admit it fooks me off. Yes I know that the ground was there long before I moved in but so was common courtesy and manners. I wouldn't dream of going to Asda and blocking someone's drive up or taking up a parking space up coz I couldn't either be arsed walking, wanted an early getaway or avoided a nominal parking charge. Maybe just me.....
What do you mean by taking up a parking space? And how often do people block off your (or other people's) drive? Because that is just diabolical behaviour regardless of where they're going.
Fans who block driveways or park illegally are out of order. Fans who park perfectly legally in a kerbside parking space however are doing nothing wrong as for the quick getaway you are fortunate you can walk to the ground. Try parking in the official car park and see if your sympathies change.
Had this for many years living near a school. When they blocked my drive off I would be furious and got into several arguments. If they just parked in front of my house then I had no issue. That's the problem though isn't it some people just park with absolute zero consideration.
Even had people parked on my drive once- they were visiting new neighbors had got the wrong house but hadn't moved their car once they’d found the right house. We got home and found the car on our drive, thinking it may have been stolen I parked across it. Couple who owned it weren't apologetic at all when they came to collect it some people just have no manners.
I live near the Rhino’s ground/the cricket at Headingley which means we get twice as much match parking. It doesn’t really bother me to be honest, it’s not like I didn’t know when I bought the house. I just park on the drive on matchdays or try and make my comings and going at less busy times where possible. I would be fuming if someone blocked the drive though.
I've had this with the "school run." We have missed GP and other appointments because a selfish parent has parked over the top of our drive and we couldn't get our car off the drive. I've contacted the school, the Council and the police and sent photographs to them all. It's a miracle with how they park, that there hasn't been a vehicle accident, or a child hasn't been injured. Apart from the school sending a letter out, little has been done. The police told me not to confront anyone.! I can therefore empathise with anyone who has had any inconvenience over irresponsible parking, but I have to say I'd never resort to vandalising anyone's vehicle. That's despicable.
A bit of a different take on this issue (parking that is). I feel some sympathy for local residents who have drives blocked etc. That's just bad. But, the council's answer just seems to be to paint more yellow lines on surrounding roads that have no effect on any residents then enforce them mercilessly. With all the road closures they've made zero effort to assist fans. Such incidents as this are a natural consequence unfortunately, nobody is happy.
