I may be annoyed at the board for selling our defence from under us and the whole Stendel saga but at least we've been able to watch attack minded football all season. The thought of hanging on like Boro did and still losing!
That takes me back to relegation in 2017/18. People hammer Morais but at least after Hecky left they had a go.
Both Huddersfield & Boro have looked poor. We need to finish above them in my opinion, if we are to stay up. I think Stoke will be OK & Hull already have 41 points, so a couple of wins & they will be out of sight of us.
I think Hecky got a bit like the Cowleys and Woodgate where he was scared to have a go in case we conceded.
The defeat to Cardiff City always sticks in my memory we were 4 unbeaten 2 wins and 2 draws including a great point away at Norwich and he dropped Barnes and rested Bradshaw and we lose to a late goal. It was a sickener that they never recovered from. I still think he lost the dressing room then and that was the reason Harvey Barnes was recalled to Leicester. You don't go from holding your own 5 wins 5 draws 6 defeats to your arse falling out and going 17 games without a win unless something seismic has happened.
Hecky was a classic case of what happens sometimes when you promote from within to give someone an opportunity only to find that the step to the next level is a step too far for them. I dont wish him any ill but I couldn't understand why Leeds signed him, like daft lad the step up proved too much for him. Morais was barking and a huge mistake but by then the damage was done. For me the jury is still out on Struber as I haven't gotten to enough games to decide how I rate him. Ultimately though its down to backing from the owners which I think anyone will strifgle with under this lot.
I think Morais wanted them to play with the handbrake off and they'd been told to defend and get a boot in for that long that they'd forgotten how do anything else. Yes Morais was mad as a box of frogs but his main thing was to have a go at the opposition. The four games against Bolton, Brentford, Sheff Utd and Bristol City were some of the best we had that season.
This season as a whole has been far more enjoyable than that one. It still amazes me we came so close to staying up, and should have stayed up, because it wasn't good. The football for c. 4 months was awful and not entertaining at all. It's a weird one because I've actually really enjoyed the majority of games this season, yet we went in to Saturday's game bottom of the league. Go figure.
The home games under Morais were quite entertaining and we generally at least had a go. The away games were a disgrace, the pathetic limp defeats at Ipswich and Forest the worst. I think we've generally "had a go" most games this season, home and away, but haven't had the quality to be higher in the table. Hopefully the last two wins will inspire more, but I fear it's probably too late.
Agree with you but is "strifgle" an Austrian word? If so cracking effort to make our new recruits feel at home by learning the lingo
can we start issuing life bans for anyone starting a thread with 'So...'? world would be better for it x
I think the only main issue with Struber is it has taken a while for his signings to bed in, as they've all come from overseas. Sollbauer & Ludwig now looking good, but we need promotion form from the remaining games to be guaranteed to stay up, which is a big ask.
I think Struber did the right thing playing Soulbauer at Portsmouth although not a good performance it gave him chance to settle in with his new team mates.I wouldn't call 2 games taking a while to bed in.
I was annoyed at the board for not getting more money for Pinnock but in fairness both he and Lyndsey weren't proven Championship players at the time and more importantly they didn't want to stay.
It reminds me of the 2015/16 season and the run we went on to make the play-offs. To start with everyone said it's good that we aren't going down. Then it was there aren't enough games left to make the play-offs. The next nine games are all winnable. As surreal as it sounds you could be looking at the league table in May and not even realise we've been in a relegation battle. If we don't stay up we don't deserve to stay up.
I just thought I’d have a go at a new language thats all ! Instead I’ve invented a new word but as a great man once said ‘all words were made up words once’ not to be confused with sheisser of course which is what we were under Hecky
The away game at QPR was the worse performance under Hecky only to be surpassed this season by Preston away.
But 6 months in the championship playing for us and we'd have got Premiership money for him. We jumped the gun!
Preston at home this season was just as bad to be fair. They were quite a few bad performances under hecky that season tbh.
I don't think we'd have got Premiership money for him. We'll never know what would have happened, but I don't see anyone paying more than what we got for him in the Summer, with less than six months on his contract. The benefit to us would have been having Pinnock for an extra six months. That would have been huge.
