The thing that hits me is the amount of people underneath the stand (i.e. at the back drinking) when the match is ongoing a nil nil. I thought it was half time at first. Anyway, some thoughts from their perspective.
The football isn't the primary reason for going to football for some people. Strange considering how much it costs to follow clubs these days.
Hadn't realised how disliked Woodgate was by Boro fans Think they went on a bit of a run at Christmas with him playing some youngsters but the older ones are back now. Could be dragged back into it,but its whether or not that helps us that I'm bothered about!
I've never quite understood the rationale behind getting so leathered that you can't remember the match. I like a beer as much as anyone, but I rarely have more than a pint before a match. I once had three before the Southampton home match in the Premier League, and spent the whole of the first half running to the bogs and back. Which as there were five goals was a touch risky!
For both the away leg at Walsall and the Millwall final at Wembley, I had a stent in for a kidney stone which meant that I was peeing every 10 minutes. I was very fortunate not to miss any of the goals.
I once went to a 4-3 defeat v Luton and missed all the goals. I arrived late and missed Lutons 1st goal. On the way to my seat with my back to the pitch I missed Luton's second goal. I went for a piss and missed us pulling one back. I was late back to my seat after half time and missed Luton making it 3-1. I was talking to someone at the side of me and missed us pulling one back. I then went to the toilet and missed Luton's fourth goal and was already leaving when we scored our third.
There is a video doing the rounds on fb, where a leathered boro fan is being helped over the wall by a couple of Barnsley fans into the ground, the Barnsley fan said " al gi thi a lift ova " the boro fan looked at him as though to say " what language is this you speak "
I started to get like that. I used to have a drink on a Tuesday even if I didn't attend the match and used to tell myself it was because it was a football night then I started doing that and having a football bet to try and vindicate it even if Barnsley weren't playing. Then I started drinking on a Wednesday night because it was Champions League on telly. Then Thursday it used to be because I liked watching Europa League and racing from Meydan. Then it was Friday and wehay the weekend was here that needed no excuses. Saturday was my main day with racing, football massive binge day. The Sunday afternoon after local football. I used to stay in club afterwards watching super sunday. I did this rinse and repeat and still got up for work without realising I was never completely sober.
A few Boro fans complaining on there forum about the manager dropping the young players and bringing the older players back in.
Took my lad to his very first game to see how he got on Lincoln v Mansfield. Lincoln won 4-3 and like you never saw a goal. Next game took him to Barnsley v Wolves promotion season and all he went 9n about for months was Wolves.
Fk me I missed Hristov’s equalizer at Elland Road in the prem having just nipped for a pee to beat the half time rush and I thought that was unlucky, but SD takes the first prize
