R.I.P. Ken, my first hero did I imagine seeing him scoring a bullet header past Gordon Banks in 1960/61

Sad to hear this. One of my boyhood heroes. That bullet past Gordon Banks will always live in my memory. RIP.

RIP Ken a hero of mine too. As a kid I met him walking up Summer Lane one day (he was visiting his wife in the maternity ward at St Helens).
Despite no pen or paper I asked him for his autograph. He patted his pockets, pulled out a matchbox, tore it up and signed the bottom with a pencil. Lovely guy.

Sad news. I met him in later years when he was a coach at Newcastle United with Joe Harvey and Keith Burkinshaw. He was a gent.

If that was in the replay at Oakwell his goal was a right foot shot. He did have a great header that was over the goal line and Banks clawed it out the officials didn't give the goal. If they had we would have won 2 - 1 in normal time. As it was we lost 2 - 1 in extra time thanks to a goal by Ken Leek.
