I was looking forward to reading about our superb 3 rd win on the trot but instead I read about "what if's" and in "spite of".Football is a sport that evolves every day so for me there's no looking back it's the here and now and the future. No matter what we say or think the facts are that Pinnock, Moore,Lyndsey,Davies and I'll include Daniel Stendel all wanted to leave our club.I'd rather concentrate on Struber and players like Mowett,Woodrow and Brown who all signed new contracts and Soulbaire ,Reiztmair andLudwig who have left there countries to join a relegation battle. That's the people I would rather focus on, people who have rolled there sleeves up and showed great commitment to the cause.
I would be more than happy if Ludewig stayed with us at the end of his loan, and signed a permanent deal.
Surely football is looking back as well? To all those glory moments? But I agree that now we should concentrate on the here and now and support Barnsley fc in staying up. COYR!
I agree he looks a great talent.Lets not forget our own Jordan Williams who in my mind as become a big part of our team.
Looking back at our glory times is what footballs about but dwelling on negatives can sap the energy. I've said on here for years you've got to experience the lows to appreciate the highs.
Football and life should be about looking back to move forward, learn the lessons and improve. Not look back and continue to bemoan the past mistakes at some point life has to move on.
In response to the op, my ‘in spite of’ comment, to which I assume you refer though there might be others, was in response to another poster who likes to be contrary/stoke the flames. The point remains that the owners were negligent preseason - and since, until late in the January window. However I do accept your point about looking forward, as this team does look markedly better than we’ve had for the majority of the season. I am hopeful they can scrape enough points to survive, as if so we could have a good season next time around (sales permitting...), but i don’t think it is unfair to say, whilst still in the same season, that things could and should have been much more comfortable, and without any additional spend being necessary.
Exactly. Doesn't have to be extremes one way or the other. We have a massive task to escape this still. Everyone wants us to stay up. Everyone equally has a right to criticise or praise as they see fit. Doesn't make anyone a better or worse fan. We all want what's best for the club.
How can we say though that our preseason was negligent. At the time everything is on a level playing field. We could have spent maybe another 4/5 million pounds and still be bottom.3 teams will be relegated and I bet you a penny that whoever goes down will have spent more money than us.I believe all boards want the best for there club and supporters but there's no magic wand I'm afraid.
great series of of posts BMW. Praise be for logical and objective thinking whilst still pouring in al the BFC emotional investment. You and a handful of others have been consistent all season in this regard.
We could have actually done what the owners said and invested the money we made in sales, And been in mid table with praise for the owners for running our club like they said they would! We all want Barnsley fc to prosper but two managers have had two transfer windows where these owners have not entirely helped them!
Which owners truly do though? Arsenal, Man Utd, Liverpool and even Man City get complaints from their perspective managers. Tottenham have a new stadium and Mourinho but Daniel Levy can't win. Everton owners get some hammer too.
Give or take a bob or 2 the board have invested back into the squad. The players brought in are the responsibility of the coach and recruitment team.Being in midtable isn't a given in this league no matter what you spend.I'm sure Luton,Wigan,Middlesbrough,Hull, Charlton, Stoke Etc were all convinced there squad would be able to compete in this division.
