Beyond irony. Globetrotting 17 year old lecturing us with the latest iPhone in her hand. The carbon footprint on them is horrendous and the designed in obsolescence means it's repeated near annually. Totally agree we need to do something about climate change but I wonder if the hypocrisy and the kind of inverted fascism that surrounds the environmental movement is doing more harm than good
My iPhone 6S worked perfectly for nearly 6 years until I accidentally went swimming with it in my pocket..... not sure who changes them annually but that isn't necessary.
As a nation I dont think we are doing bad regarding climate change, I do however think she needs to take a trip by pedlo ( not by air its damaging to the enviroment) to Russia/ China and the states to spread her message ( well not hers but her PR team) how dare she,how very dare she, odious little creature ( just my opinion of course)
I don't think identifying someone's imperfection means that you should discount everything they say or believe. I'm sure if all of us lived the same as her we'd be in a better world.
That's spooky, I had an iPhone 4 for four years, worked perfectly (after battery replacement) but slowly stopped due to software updates. That's the annoying thing. Kids just get the latest one due to the marketing pressure. The babyboomers did create consumerism but the younger generations have grabbed it with open arms
Personally I think she’s an incredible person, and it’s tragic that she has to do what she’s doing. I imagine media headlines like “Autistic hypocrite lectures leaders while holding smartphone” will be rife tomorrow. Just my opinion like.
It takes a special kind of person to think that a teenager with Asbergers who speaks out against Climate Change is the bad guy.
I thought about going to the rally But then realised that I had a job and had to go to work. I’m always amazed at how people can get time off for these things
Agreed, so when she was in the USA I decided to write to her about her shocking hypocrisy. I used a papyrus made from flax, and ink made from vegetable dye. I stuck the stamp on using river mud, and triumphantly posted it, thinking “that’ll show her up for using an iphone...” The letter was picked up by the diesel post van, and driven to the sorting centre, a huge building containing hundreds of electrically driven machines and consuming huge amounts of electrical power, generated by coal fired power stations. It was sorted and then put onto an articulated diesel lorry consuming hundreds of gallons of fuel and belching carbon dioxide on it’s way to the airport. Once there the letter was loaded onto a 4 engined DHL cargo plane which flew to New York....... And the process was repeated in the USA, though the letter missed her as she was in the shop buying an iphone On second thoughts, a text might be a tad less destructive of the planet’s atmosphere. Well done Greta
Not saying she's the bad guy, I agree wholeheartedly with the sentiment behind the message but her approach may be self defeating and, like a lot of the extinction rebellion people they need to look at themselves. Emma Thompson first class flight to London from LA to join a demo???
Protesting is simple. Stick some card on a piece of wood. Daub some catchy slogan on it or a caricature of someone who you want to blame and then post a time and a place where you can all gather on social media . Finding practical solutions to a complex problem requires much more effort. Anyone can protest and complain (I am doing it now) on the internet -it is the new pastime particularly for the younger generation. Educating yourself and developing the skills to find solutions is better but, hey, far better to skive off school or miss some lectures to get out on the streets and make some noise and disrupt people going about their business, not to mention the cost of policing etc. No-one is saying raising awareness is not a good idea, but hey Greta, we have got the message and that message is... like all activists, all you do when you labour the point is p*ss people off and end up damaging the cause you are fighting for. If you feel that strongly go to Uni, get a degree in relevant subject and come up with answers and solutions. As I said, anyone can ask questions.
Is it any coincidence the loudest noises against the lass seem to come from right wing, brexit supporters? Correct me if I’m wrong I just may read into it differently and read the wrong things As stated above it takes a special kind of person to think she’s the bad guy here.
