Yep. you were drunk upon the majesty of your original post. No alcohol needed for that Then you go all abusive. No need for it.
Moore, pinnock and Lindsay all contracted Barnsley players. All sold completely by choice by Barnsley fc. This idea that a player who declines to sign an extension when he still has a third of his contract remaining is an evil greedy person who hates Barnsley is just rubbish. Had our owners shown any kind of ambition the last time we were in the championship and made any attempt to stay up then maybe those players would have been willing to resign but they didn't. They sleepwalked into relegation. Now if you were a footballer would you believe that it would be any different this time or would you think 'hang on, if I sign an extension i could be back in league one in 12 months time'? Even now we have Mowatt. Why the hell would he sign an extension when the owners had accepted relegation in December? Made no attempt to sign players to keep us up in January and then had the cheek to ask our captain to commit to the club for a few more years?
When has fair ever been a principle of the football authorities. 1. Arsenal promoted to the top division after finishing 5th or 6th. 2. FFP (taking the Mick) 3 Relegating Swindon and other higher profile cubs getting away with same misdemeanours. You simply cannot decide promotion and relegation based on current positions.( as someone says all matches would have to be played till at least things were indisputable) I certainly won’t lose any sleep. Hopefully mean Derby. Wendy and any other FFP defaulters get points deducted at the start of next season.
Seems much more reasonable to call the season off and start again than go on the basis of current standings and have teams relegated and promoted without playing all the league games. Or with some not even having played the same number of games as their rivals in some instances (e.g. Villa).
S So if I go into Ladbrokes with a coupon with all predictions backing teams based on their current league positions I should argue that (a) they take my bet in the first place, and (b) they pay me out as my predictions would be seen as correct because of the league positions. That would never happen , and neither should any outcomes based on games played so far be accepted.
If the national league finish their season but league 2 and above dont, they are the only ones in my view who should get promotion so league 2 would have to play more games next season.
Just merge next season with this, so clubs carry their current advantage / disadvantage into next season. 100 points target just to stay up by next year? That would be novel.
Just seen this in SSN (Twitter) gives an option that Prem League next season would be 22 teams with Leeds and West Brom included. No relegations or playoffs with top 2 to go up to the division higher. never gonna satisfy everyone but seems sensible.
Why though? By that token why not relegate the two bottom teams. The way Leeds folded last season, their lack of goals recently means it's by no means certain. And why penalise the play off contenders?Liverpool on the other hand only need to limp over the line to gain a title yet they won't get it
Reading between the lines roll on next year in championship. No alternative if this carrys on through the summer. As for the leeds, west brom suggestion of goin up i think that would cause extra problems, for example should coventry and rotherham go up and league 2 leaders. Also the chasing pack in all 3 divs might have something to say about that.If the season cant be completed there are too many obstacles to overcome. We might av hit the lottery.
As I said on another thread you only have to look at Bournemouth who are in the relegation places due to one goal difference to see why ending the season based on present position can’t work.
I’ve said elsewhere. Scrap the playoffs, scrap relegation, promote the top 2 or 3 from each league. Then the PL has to play with an extra 2/3 teams for one season. Top of Prem stays as it is with ‘Pool crowned Champions. The main issue here would be the Prem having to split money around more teams and then also parachute payment issues. Everyone else would be happy - although 4,5 and 6th places teams in EFL would miss out on the chance of Playoffs. Unless the 3rd place was decided by a random generator - literally pulled out of a hat from the playoff hopefuls......
I think this solution is better than a total scrap, but isnt there some UEFA rule that European top flight leagues mustnt exceed 20 or am i dreaming that up? Im sure they could grant an exception for a season if so. Edit: Just read that about 15 years ago FIFA requested all leagues be reduced to 18 but the PL resisted it. Can't see them being happy with 22 clubs then.
Possibly - but in the current predicament, for one season only, it’s hardly an issue, or shouldn’t be. But we know what UEFA are like!
Were clutching at straws here if we survive because of covid 19 struber is the luckiest manager in bfc history as for these owners they will be rubbing their hands as cauley, browny and mowatt are worth more as championship players, we get another 6 million in t.v rights and the north stand will have a decent number of supporters in each game. Dont get me wrong I'd take no relegations and top 2 promted but that would mean 5 teams relegated next season so just prolonging it with this lot really.
Take what we can as far as I’m concerned. This current team with a few additions would be a lot better next season. That said, CV might slow down over the summer, but it’s likely to come back again quite strong in the winter.
