https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/52077977 Pretty much confirmed here too - season "extended indefinitely". Get used to it, they are getting this season finished come what may.
Won't feel like the 2019-20 season because of the huge gap. It will feel like a mini nothing series of matches.
I suppose it will all depend on how viable the 20/21 season is. Imagine football can't resume until the new year. It could be that season that doesn't happen. It's too early to tell.
Extending the season indefinitely calls in to question why we have transfer windows. Many players will be out of contract this summer and thus free to move on. We're potentially going to resume a season where Clubs have different squads to the ones they had after the January window. Do you say to players that they're not free to move until after the 2019/20 season has been concluded? If they went down this route you're almost certainly leaving yourself open to legal challenges based on contract law.
That's true but I think the implications of clubs benefiting from one additional transfer window are much smaller than the implications of cancelling the season.
Cefetin saying that season needs to resume by end of June. That’s already breaking their previously imposed deadline of 30th June to get everything finished.
In all honesty I fail to see why the games can't all be played on telly. The players can all be tested. Those with enough of a squad can field a squad. - If everyone is tested negative you have a maximum of say 50 people per match to test. Everyone else can social distance. If we were in total lock down I'd not propose this - but folk are working - (football is work) on building sites and in other employment this close. Put the matches on at staggered times and put them on the internet - free to air channels. It's interesting times we live in - a bit of pragmatism and the country can at least have something to fill the hours / a bit of a morale boost. Maybe save teh very last game until we're out of it - and have them in front of a crowd - but I cant see any reason given other things that are going on in society why football can't work through this with soem thorough testing and relaxation of the sky subscriptions. I'm sure they could post every season ticket holder a code for i follow. I don't know - with modern technology this should not be beyond the realms of man. And for those saying they would not be happy with not being able to attend - woudl you rather have football on the internet - or no football until forever. I'd rather have footy on Saturday than - in 7 weeks time - another Saturday starting the same four walls - playing my 900th game of monopoly
if a new season starts in August i don't see any way there will be fans there. i think your season ticket will consist of watching all the home games on TV or tablet and so on. They are almost certain there will be a second and third wave which could be 3 months up to 12 months apart. So i cant see there being fans in stadiums for next season if there is actually one. unless the economic and other costs becomes so intolerable that they have to change tactics from the long grass approach to short sharp shock approach to get to the 60 /80 % they talk about ,which personally i think will happen
https://www.independent.co.uk/sport...ixtures-dates-suspension-latest-a9432961.html Another daft idea.
What if 1 team decides they won't fulfil their fixtures for fear of putting their staff at risk, which is quite feasible, and in my eyes, acceptable?
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/s...lan-resume-season-closed-doors-start-MAY.html The bottom needs to fall out of football. If anything good can come from no Football it should be lower wages for players and lower ticket prices for fans.
We've got five players out of contract in June re- Mowatt, Pinnilos, Radlinger, Thiam and Dougall. That must surely influence our ability to survive if the season resumes in July and the pick of those players who normally feature in our match day squad dont renew their contracts re- Mowatt, Rads and Kenny.?
We do, but the article I've read infers that whether he signs up again will be dictated by the League we will be playing in. To me, that means go down and he's off.!
I can see clubs using the end of the contract date to get rid of players they don't want, but also trying to have it both ways by keeping players that would otherwise be moving on.
Said it elsewhere and I'll say it again. Where are you getting the emergency services from for these behind closed doors games? Even after the crisis passes our emergency services are going to be thoroughly knackered and stretched to the limit for a long time to come. Football is not going to be high on their priority list whatever f..ucking Sky says.
The extension is a decision made by the club, not the player. What is more likely to happen though is that the year extension will purely be to create a window to sell, if a new contract is not accepted.
