Probably lots of people have seen this interview before but I just came across this on YouTube and found it quite emotional to be honest. An incredible guy talking about an incredible time for all who experienced it:
Absolutely yes, I get the feeling his experience at Barnsley gave him something he never imagined on the day he signed for us. He was clearly motivated but if you listen to the first part of the conversation you could almost think he was coming to us for his last pay day but oh no .... the rest of course is history and will live long in the memory.
I've bumped into him a few times walking the dogs. He speaks highly of his time at Barnsley & seems a really friendly bloke TBH.Think he lives in Addingham, probably moved there when he played for Leeds.
Wonderful, just wonderful. Think some b’stard must be peeling onions somewhere hereabouts. And it made me think - what a stupid idea it was in 96/97 to mix experienced pros with younger players. Never get anywhere doing that.
Thanks for the link. I can put my hand on my heart and say it was probably the most upset I've ever been the day he was sacked. He had a shitload of injuries to contend with at the time. He 100% should have been given longer. For those that are upset about the Stendel issue. It pales into insignificance to me. I was fortunate to see him at the lamproom along with Darren Sheridan. Both told great stories.
