Nardiello 23 is the only one I really remember, god knows why, because I've watched some brilliant players over the years.
Good Call. Your post had me searching for the record books. Hewitt was at Oakwell for 3 seasons. Howard was there at the same time but they only appeared in the same team on 10 occasions. Hewitt was ever present in 65/6 platings in the no. 11 shirt in all 51 games. Howard played 1 game in the number 5 shirt. In 66/7 Hewitt played 47 games out of 51 (3 in the 11 shirt, 6 in no. 10, 4 in no. 9 and 34 in the no. 6 shirt)Howard played in 1 game again at no. 5. In 67/8 Howard was ever present playing 48 games in the no. 6 shirt. Hewitt however. Played only 8 games ( no.10 In 6 games. 1 in no. 11 and 1 in no. 8). Hewitt was released at the end of the season as he was carrying an injury and probably didn't play enough games to warrant a Division 4 runners up medal. Hewitt was a favourite of mine and as I saw all but 1 home games and a number of Away games in 66/7, I did associate him with the no. 6 shirt. Howard rarely wore any shirt other than the no. Six until he was transferred to Newcastle in September Seventy one. Thus the number six ought quite rightly belong to Pat Howard.
I was certain Dick Hewitt was released at the end of the 1968/69 season, not the previous promotion campaign. It must be my bad memory, as I was convinced he was substitute at a number of matches (including my first ever game) and I didn't start going until the 1968/69 season. I was sure he scored at least one of our goals in our 4-3 victory in the 1st Round of the League Cup at York City (who he joined after being released by Barnsley the following Summer) that season, too. My memory is poor compared to what it once was, though. Seeing as he's the go to fall guy with a lot of people these days, I'm going to blame Jeremy Corbyn!
