Has anybody ever heard of this match happening....it would be from many many years ago...pre war, possibly pre 1st WW. Basically I was watching Lokomotiv v The Invisible Opposition yesterday ( a match which was a fund raiser for the club and sold a European record number of tickets.....182 thousand at 1 euro each). Only got half way through (Lok leading 3-0) and the co commentator, who is mainly giving a history of the club, mentions to his English sidekick about games they played many years ago. Can't remember the first name but he them mentioned games against Middlesbrough and Barnsley. (possibly played in England). I'll try and contact the commentator and get some more info.....I'm intrigued if no one else is Match here......different but interesting history of the club (all in English)....mention is about 25/30 minutes in.
Would that have been after winning the FA cup in 1912 I think they did a mini tour I think they played Belgrade as well , undefeated in Europe.
It gets mentioned 28 mins in and he says he will talk some more later (I only got to half time due to beer and bed). Will continue later
We played them in 1910 as part of our "Grand" European tour. When the guys at LOK were preparing a club history last year they got it touch and I sent them our details of the match. In return they sent his previously unseen team group from the day.
Some pictures from the book the published last year as it was their 125th anniversary. The text in yellow is letter sent by a board member back to Barnsley. We won 5-1in front of 2000 fans. The book is called 125 Jahre: vom VfB zum 1. FC Lokomotive Leipzig.
Thats quite a fantastic book and won "German Sports Book of the Year" last year. The guys very kindly sent me a free copy for providing the Barnsley stuff and a few things on the Corinthians.
