Having type 2 diabetes. I have set my stall out to try and control the bugger. Been great on a low carb diet. Losing loads of weight. Cut out the sweet stuff. BUT bread n Chips. Are a must. Take up around 70% of my allowance when I crave em.
Ive managed to find a low carb bread but am still having to limit slices. Be it any proper bread you can think of.( Not that Bagel crap.) Naan, pitta. whole meal white brown you name it nowt really low and some would trash my allowance.
Chips. Tried everything. Low fat but Carbs through the roof. Tried that Tofu as it’s got good comments to use as fries. FFS went straight int bin.
Eating loads of stuff I still like and some I thought I didn’t like. o_O.
Any help appreciated. Seeking sensible responses ( “god what have I done” :))

In the same boat mate, got it under control with diet and exercise, mainly exercise though, lost quite a bit of weight but put a bit back on with gyms being closed, anyway off out for a long walk now and a bike ride later. Just remember whilst your exercising your burning all the carbs/glucose ant not depending on insulin, up m at em :D

Take a tip from Bojo and invent yourself a mantra. "Don't cave to the crave". (From a former Pre 2 diabetes candidate)

A few years back I was put on a low calorie diet. By a dietician. Starving missen then believe it or not. Gained weight. Could have cried. Thought screw this.
But went to one of those 6 week courses they’ve set up. ( ask your doctor or diabetic nurse) 3/4 hrs Wednesday afternoons. ( in my case) Brilliant. If anyone can get on one. I fully recommend it. I took the low carb route. Low carb beers. Full English. Loads of meat. Discovered how to get it under control with the bonus of losing weight. Only thing was I couldn’t get anywhere with my chips n bread questions. Basically cut em out.

If you want low carb bread you’re going to have to switch the flour (as that’s what has the carbs). Almond flour is the most popular switch and coconut flour is used a lot too. Lots of recipes online or you can get ready made mixes but they’re not cheap. I’d probably just accept that it will use most of the allowance that day and plan the rest of your meals accordingly.

To be honest mate we’re using plenty of almond flour. ( summat else I thought I wouldn’t like.) On loads of recipes. Drop scones one I particularly like with fruit . Can’t get mi head round coconut stuff. But might give it a try. I am accepting I’m using a lot of my allowance and adjusting what I can have that day. Thanks for the advice.
I treat missen with a takeaway last week Had my first xl donner kebab, salad and pitta bread Since afore lockdown Lots of Chili sauce. Heaven. But pitta bred takes up 1/3 of allowance and thought screw it .

out of interest how many carbs do you allow urself per day? I’m two weeks into low carb where I allow myself 100g per day. Lost 7lbs up to now (started when I hit 16 stone) , luckily I’m not craving anything, beers is prob my only weekness so on a weekend try and keep my food to 20g saving 80g for lager.

130g per day mate. Lost about 30/35lb (since late January ) estimated as I hadn’t weighed missen afore I started. Was concentrating on the diabetes more than the weight benefits that come with it. I too like the odd lager. There’s one on the market called MICHELOB ULTRA 3.5% alc. 2.0g (yes 2.0g surprised me) of carbs per 330 ml bottle. Bought some more from Morrison’s this aft. Other supermarkets sell it. It’s overtaken bud and Coors sales as a light beer. £10 for 12 bottles.
Ps keep it to thissen. I don’t want em to run out. :)

Have a look at Keto recipes. On Keto, you are allowed 0 carbs, so there are some great tasty recipes that will not take up any of your allowance
