Technically, nobody knows how Labour would have handled the virus - all the above is speculation. Apart from the fact that they would have funded the NHS a whole lot better over the last 10 years.

However, what you can't deny is that this government has failed dramatically. Every metric and statistic show this.

Do you think they have done a good job @RedStriker ?

In 2003, we had 4 cases of SARS luckily - 1 more than South Korea.
After SARS, we put a system in place to deal with a pandemic - which included following best practice from around the world, quarantining incoming (unless it started here), test/track/trace, etc, etc.
In 2011/2, this system dealt with MERS cases entering the country.
In 2020, the Tory cabinet (PM, Health Minister & the others) took decisions to go against the policies in the pandemic system. This has lead to significant extra deaths in the UK.

It is fair to say that the UK would have fared better without the conservatives. It would have probably fared better without any government - just following the pandemic system.

I never expected the UK to be like Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Burma or Taiwan (with 13 deaths between them) - we were always going to get a larger number of cases from all the people that travel regularly. I would expect a G7 economy with world leading health service and good governance to perform pro-rata around the same levels as South Korea & Japan - between 300 and 500 dead at this stage with a functioning economy. Not around 65000 excess deaths and an economic collapse.

To be fair the SARS and Mers outbreaks weren’t in the same league as this Corvid 19 , neither required the same drastic measures as this and most people never came within a hundred miles of a case.. this pandemic has set completely different parameters worldwide and has basically ****** up economies and businesses on an industrial scale and IMO the blame lays squarely in China, I wouldn’t trust that lot for a moment and when this situation dies down it will be interesting to see how the western economies deal with them

Unfortunately, the only Western economies that have any hope of dealing with China (in terms of size) are the USA and the EU. We will just be bent over and do what they want.

He's been spotted in London strolling around in the nip, everybody laughing at him and he can't work out why. Apparently, Cummings has presented him with a new suit.

I've been on chemo for two years now. My last two sessions were cancelled, for two reasons. One is that the staff and space were needed and the other was that going into an overcrowded hospital might compromise my safety. I've been given another date for the end of June, but as the last couple of days have shown deaths heading up a fraction I'm not sure that I'll get that date either. I'm starting to worry about this. The whole thing could have been handled so much better if lessons from other countries had been taken early enough and acted upon.

They are as culpable for the virus as the last Labour government was for the worldwide banking crash, problem is, the tories made the gullible believe it was their fault.

I've no idea which thread to post this in, but Rishi Sunak continues to impress me. I absolutely do not agree with his politics, but his ability to communicate, answer questions and think on his feet is very good.

I agree with your post of moving away from depending on cheap imports Dek but not making Trump out to be some sort of superman .
Don’t forget it was such as Trumps type capitalism of get the cheapest anywhere that’s got us in this mess to start with .
What is needed and what the decent politicians have been working towards is fair trade .
Yes there’s cheap imports from China and what we need is quality goods and fair trading and Trumps cavalry charge politics is not the way to do it .
