The players would have over 300 calls each to make if every season ticket holder was on a different phone number, but I suppose single families will have 2 or more season ticket holders, reducing the number a bit. - Either way, I think they have a bit of work to do, and won't want to be long on each call. Will our European players be involved I wonder? Hope I get a Mowatt call personally.
Just had a phone call from Kenny dougall. Seemed a really nice genuine guy, he is from Brisbane where I have relatives so we had a natter. Asked how I was doing in lockdown, I was more interested in asking him that, I work from home so not really affected. Players have no more idea than we do as to what will happen. Actually feel for them.
Seemed undiplomatic to ask. We also talked about playing behind closed doors and he remarked he appreciated the away following.
Oh, God, please don't ring me. I want the players to win, but I have nothing to say to any of them. And I am certain the players do not want to be making those calls. The barrier between player and fan is very thin due to sowshul meedja. But you have to want to be interested in them as people. I'm not. Please try your hardest to win. Beyond that, I couldn't care less. I will pay to watch you. Try your best for the team. After that, we diverge. I love the club and the players seem like a good, hardworking set. But I do not want to be passing the time of day with someone who lives a very different life to me, and who is being forced to call me under duress. Awk-ward.
Some of us have been calling our over 70s for the last couple of months, checking in on them, having long chats with them in these tough times. I spoke to an old boy in Skegness, the second person I called, weeks ago, he and his wife both in their 80s and in poor health, self isolating. No family to see them, no technology to see their family either. The old guy was crying because we’d took the time to call. I was out with my dog and I spent 45 minutes with him, and I believe I helped. I’ve since checked in with him every week. Little things mean a lot. The players haven’t been here to do so. Now they are and they’re doing their bit. I understand it’s not for everyone and I do get that some will call it forced etc. It’s a cynical world, so I’m aware of that. But the people employed at our club are an amazing group and I’m proud of all they do. Would you prefer me to give you a call instead?
Nobody wants to call me these days, Andy, old mate! If the phone rings, it's always for either Crystal or Laura, so there's no point in me answering when it rings.
I hope Laura answers and it's Alex Mowatt. I'll probably see unknown number and say "who the f ook are you"? Or they'll ring me during a six furlong sprint at Royal Ascot and i'll say, "who the fook are you haven't you got anything better to do?"
My plan is to not answer and hopefully they will leave a voicemail. I don't even answer the phone to my mates, they know to send a text.
Leaving a message is scarier than talking to a stranger isnt it!? Definitely will be for some. For others, I reckon they are quite happy to chat.
If it's easier for me to tell you to go away than it is to tell Pinillos or Chaplin to go away, knock yourself out.
A good few years ago, I'd just got home from a morning shift and the phone rang. Being in a bit of a grumpy mood (no change there!), I asked Crystal to answer it. She seemed to have a very pleasant conversation for about twenty minutes. When the call finished, I asked my who she'd been talking to. "Jackie Adams", she replied. I just shrugged my shoulders, the name meant nothing to me. "She introduced herself as David Beckham's Mother-In-Law, Victoria Beckham's Mum and she was offering an autographed book from David".. We were having a concert to raise monies for Laura's charity Post Pals and Jackie thought we'd like the book for a raffle prize. We took Jackie up on her kind offer.
