Thank god for that ! Now we've got room for 3 million Hong Kong Chinese who have just been awarded citizenship rights. Makes you brexiters look a bit like King Canute doesn't it?
We might need them to work at Nissan or other car plants when they move here? Some of them can join our fishing fleet, heard we might need a few more boats? They may even be able to pick our fruit n veg, who knows? But if they hold a British passport they are very welcome.
I think 3 million people in Hong Kong hold a British National overseas passport. With the troubles going on between Hong Kong and China, Britain have eased the rules regarding them moving to Britain, more to anger/persuade China to change its present course than anything else.
Think he’s trying to say that us Brexiteers voted to keep out foreigners coz we’re racist, yet there’s a possibility that 3m might come from Hong Kong. I apologise if I’m wrong though.
I presume people were against unlimited migration with the pressure on housing public services and pay rates. Its a difficult situation but the importance of migrant workers was not discussed properly before and after the referendum. Interesting to see how the new immigration policy plays out.
hong kong and our commitment to the people there is a different kettle of fish to uncontrolled EU migration
thats irrelevant, the OP was trying to discredit people who voted for brexit by using hong kong as an example for migration
I think the nationals would prefer help to stay where they are under the laws they are used to, rather than help to get away.
Did you mean to quote me there? I've already answered that no not all but many yes. At no point have I said you are.
Regardless of my own views on the matter I can understand how people might argue that the controls on EU migration aren't stringent enough, or that they're not adequately implemented or enforced by the UK, but it's misleading to refer to "uncontrolled EU migration". As I've posted elsewhere and from my own experience, even pre-Brexit Freedom of Movement within the EU is not unconditional.
