September seems a more sensible aim given the logistics. Won't hurt to have a few more weeks of virus knowledge to inform our decisions.

My wife started back at her primary school last week. 7 reception kids turned up. This week there were a further 20 year one kids.

    Percentages of paediatric Covid_19 fatalities:

    Belgium
    0-14= 0%
    15-24= 0.01% (1)

    Canada
    0-19= 0%

    Germany
    0-9 = 0.01% (1)
    10-19 = 0.02% (2)

    Italy
    0-9 = 0.01% (4)
    10-19 = 0%

    NL
    0-14= 0%
    15-24= 0.016 (1)

    Sweden
    0-9= 0.01% (1 but not tested)
    10-19= 0%

    UK
    0-14= 0.009%

Obviously the logical Government response to this is to allow the shielded population out and about and extend the death of education indefinitely.

This really is the problem. As I’ve said from the start, it is impossible to do it in the way the guidance stated, literally impossible. The choice then becomes do you open the school to all with no social distancing or to you open to a few with social distancing? I’ve not seen anyone having that conversation where social distancing is completely abandoned (this includes staff) in order to fully open the school.

Yeah if the age group where 9/10 deaths have been in are allowed to be out in public again mingling with everyone, then with things improving all the time the aim should be full classes with no social distancing for schools in September.

Does anyone get the impression that the above posters want the lockdown to be over? It is hard to tell as they have kept their cards close to their chest.
As for those statistics, makes perfect sense as famously people aged 0-19 live alone without anyone outside of that age bracket.

To be fair, parts of Rotherham have 12 year old mothers with 3 school age kids or something :)

There are 500000+ teachers that are not in that age group working in schools, plus all the non-teaching staff. That is before you get to the parents of the 10 million kids who are in school, who are mostly quite a bit older than 19.

Teachers are famously all age 19 or under, too

Hopefully all the numbers will continue on the current trajectory and things will look a lot different by September.

Not for ages have I seen such a one sided negative reply to a leader. Even the likes of Boris Johnson gets some positive replies to his tweets. Wales are in unison in not being happy. People will lose their business.

On the one hand, I have sympathies with the business owners. Its a difficult time, and they would love to be back to normal.

On the other hand, my daughter lives in Wales and tomorrow is her birthday. We haven't seen her since February and can't go to visit her - even if we wanted to - but he is following scientific advice to keep the people of Wales safe.

As someone who lives in Wales, she and her friends are much happier with the decisions made by the Senedd than by Westminster.

Is there no end to this Governments incompetence ?
Sixth richest nation in the world and if that isn’t enough we have hindsight of what other less affluent governments workable and cautious strategies to work from .
It’s like we’ve been locked up all this time and our govt have not given the future a second thought in all that time .
There’s no sign of a workable Test and trace or any semblance of a plan to come out of lockdown as safe as other countries .

    Look at his Twitter feed.

    https://mobile.twitter.com/search?q=@fmwales&src=typed_query&f=live

He's got no support at all and everyone is annoyed with him. It's a real shame you can't visit your daughter. Doing so would have posed little risk. We cannot keep social distancing going indefinitely until a vaccine arrives and many don't believe we are months away from one and others won't take it as they think it's been rushed.

How many of them are actual people? - a lot of the far-right bots are working in that space... - just look for how quickly people are blocked for daring to suggest that Karol Sikora lied for years about being a professor at Imperial College...

But, if he is following the advice of the government scientists and the Westminster government isn't, who is at fault? Presuming they are using the same scientific advice to underpin their decisions.
