an enquiry into how Wigan passed EFL proper test. Totally agree, don’t think any findings should influence a change in points deduction but a proper enquiry should be held to ensure a better system put into place. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/53261368
Also look at Bolton, Bury and Charlton. There is a system in place but the EFL don't follow or abide by their own rules. The EFL are not fit for purpose as an organisation. They should be made to disclose how and why they have "passed" some of these so called owners as fit and proper but I don't hold out much hope of anything drastically changing...
Hope she gets some support over this , it should be a cross party inquiry as there’s football fans from all party’s . I’ll not hold mi breath the FIFA inquiry is still ongoing with Platini from years ago .
TBH, given the lack of transparency of our owners actual wealth, you could even throw us in there. I think the whole things needs ripping up and starting again.
The really big question is how can a club change hands and then in 4 weeks be placed into Administration with none of the club officials even knowing there was a problem - there is something seriously wrong somewhere. Absolutely no grounds to appeal points deductions due to covid though the new owners cant claim surprise at that one
Read today that two players were given renewed contracts the day before the announcement. That the owners contacted the administrators last week but held back going official until after Stoke game People running the club were made aware day of Stoke game but kept it from first team so as not to distract from match.
June 24th apparently but the administrators needed to establish that the players would be insured before they could take over. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/53261368
I agree they have. I’m not an advocate for giving teams an easy ride who’ve spent above their means - far from it. However, if anything in that thread is true it’s far from living beyond their means. I doubt it’s true - but if it is is absolutely stinks. The fact we don’t really know much about our owners and their wealth should be pretty concerning if owners of clubs can carry out things like that. Again I’m not saying the story is in anyway true.
It's made it into the serious press now. Although the story sounds far-fetched at first, I don't think it's so outlandish in the context of the individuals involved. A high stakes poker player, alleged Asian betting rings. The types of people not exactly renowned for giving a **** about any destruction they may cause. https://www.theguardian.com/footbal...ed-into-administration-au-yeung-investigation
This would not be the first time that an owner has ‘sold’ their business and it has subsequently gone bust. Th opacity of Hong Kong listing and Cayman Islands should be a warning sign. Purely speculation but the purchase price and repayment of debt may all be very circular with the original owners simply dumping the business and getting cash out without seen to be publicly dropping the club in to administration. Anyone remember a certain UK retailer selling their business for £1?
This story is amazing! No one in business buys something and sells within 7 days without some serious homework done....like all fraud and the rest, you just have to follow the money trail. Its horrible for Wigan but the EFL dont come out of this well (as usual) and im sorry but they have to do the right thing to protect all the other clubs. Rules are only rules as long as EVERYONE adheres to them. Relegate anyone found if breaching financial rules....simples.
Not something I know much about, but wasn’t there a threat of a Championship breakaway league? I’m not sure if this makes the EFL completely toothless in terms of sanctioning clubs that are so obviously cheating.
