Agree. Total joke. You could possibly forgive a single error but to make three is unforgivable. The penalty awarded to Man Utd against Villa was particularly harsh in my opinion.
VAR could have been a great addition to the game but most of us knew that football would somehow manage to turn it into a farce.
It favours the big clubs more than the spineless referees do. Oh wait it's run by a panel full of spineless referees.
I think refs over analyse the incidents which is why it takes so long. VAR should be run by ex players. They know more about the game than refs. It was so obvious that the Villa and Southampton penalties should not have been given that you wonder what the ref panel were drinking.
Yes, it was sadly predictable unfortunately. It's almost as if those ridiculously highly paid people at the top have absolutely no idea what they're doing. But that surely couldn't be the case............?
Since the start I've been wondering why it's not done by clubs/captains being given a certain number of video appeals per match as in cricket/tennis. For anything which is open to interpretation. It would cut out so much of the rigmarole and still implant an element of drama. Obviously, goal line technology should be kept.
How many kneecaps, fingernails, bigtoes, noses etc. offsides have we had.How many handballs that have been deemed not handball by pundits.Penaltys that were not penaltys.Dodgy sending offs. Then all the waiting for decisions, killing the atmosphere which for me is the main problem.Ok refs used to drop the odd clanger but we all got over it.
Nothing wrong with VAR we’ve all seen how teams have been cheated by the likes of Manure etc pressuring them Refs . What is wrong is the rubbish that’s monitoring it and they’ll be on some good money to look at it and they show their bias . BRing it to speed on what it was brought in for and get rid of the dross that’s managing it now . If incidents can’t be ruled on one take instead of complete breakdowns and slow motions then the original refs decision stands imo.
VAR is a fantastic tool to have, it's the one's sat behind it that have to go, I don't know who these people are who make the decisions, but if its not, then it needs to be ex premier league refs imo
Remember someone saying it will be great as it will cut out mistakes - decisions still made by human and open to error. Works brilliantly in cricket - disaster in football. Is it as bad around the world or just here?
The so called top ref michael oliver was in charge of var for 2 of the clangers in the last few days.So its not the refs its the system putting even more pressure on refs.
I think the var referee viewing the incidents are more interested in protecting the status of the game referee, by not going against the on field decision, than actually getting the correct decision.
The issue as i see it is the VAR official is usually another ref who may have a game tomorrow, not a specialised person, these refs are rarely going to go against their mate who might be the VAR for their match next week. (Baring in mind poor performances can mean you dont get a match the week after so in effect if you pull your mates decision you could be costing him financially). So as far as i can see it would make sense to have specific VAR officials, as i think is the case in some other leagues, australia?, where the VAR seems to work alot better. As for the offsides, as we currently stand i cant complain about the rulings, offside is offside, a toe or a yard is the same thing, i think personally the ruling should be changed to be "daylight" between attacker and defender. This it would be alot more cut and dried IMO. The handball rule is also something that needs addressing.
They are looking at getting rid of the current VAR team as I thought they would . There is nothing wrong with the technology if it is policed correctly and in the right spirit .
Good idea in principle, ruined beyond belief by it's ridiculous application. It should correct clear and obvious mistakes. With the emphasis on CLEAR and OBVIOUS. Instead they use it to spend 5 minutes with a slide rule working out whether someone's pubic hair was offside. No-one with any interest in the game was ever interested in getting offside correct to the millimetre.
