Should there be a campaign to get supermarkets to boycott Brazilian Beef ?
The Rain Forests in Amazonia are at crisis levels and under Bolsaro are being burned at a colossal rate by Beef farmers .
The bits European and other countries is worthless whilst this is going on , rain forests are the worlds lungs and we are losing them at alarming rates .
Corporations are either ignoring or not listening and capitalising on this catastrophe.
A social media campaign like never before is needed to combat this as Govts are afraid of their status quo to put at risk of the economic consequences and press assassinations .
Bolsaro and the likes would listen if there were a backlash which Govts are afraid of or won’t back .

The destruction of the Amazon has been going on many years and yes it disgusts me. It disgusted me too when a loony tune right-winger wasn't in power.

Of course it was going on before Bolsaro but not at the rate it is now .
It had become more blatant as although it was illegal then Bolsaro has more or less given them the nod and prevention and prosecution had almost been non existent .

It's had a massive effect on the indigenous tribes living in the Amazon who have been killed off in some cases.

When we did the Amazon Rain forest in Geography. It came out that companies such as Mcdonalds were involved with the ranches being set up. That was a few years ago. I just wondered if that was still common place?

Thought I'd seen a TV advert for McD's whereby they were extolling the virtues of using British Beef.

Fairly sure in the UK McDonalds use British beef. I think they have outlets in other countries though and I guess they dont use British

I dont recall seeing Brazilian beef in supermarkets here - cant say if its in pies etc - I would probably boycott it if I thought I was being served it but dont know how I'd know

Although a noble idea all you ll do is punish the guy at the bottom who has no choice but to farm beef because economic opportunity in Brazil is pretty much zero . Punish the masses then they will vote for an even more extreme version of bolsenaro I'm afraid . Brazil's problems go back a fair few years . Lots of corruption from previous centre left governments plus large amounts of money spent on vanity projects . The world cup / Olympics , remember them ? Maybe that money should have been spent elsewhere .

If you kick said pie down the supermarket aisle and it bends at an unbelievable angle it's Brazilian

The destruction of the Amazon is serious and obviously wrong and must be stopped.

But what’s the difference between farmers in the Amazon destroying the natural environment - and the level of destruction that British farmers have carried out on the British countryside over the last few hundred years - especially over the last 50 years.
If you look into the economics (eg polluter pays) of Britain’s farming - it would actually save the country money if British farmers stopped farming.

I'm not sure if it's the case now as much, but I bet most of the steaks you've had in value or mid-chain restaurants, where not advertised as British or Argentinean, have been Brazilian.

    "100% Irish Beef"

Imported Beef from Brazil is neither here or there.

The irony though of eating hormone infused beef while refusing to eat chlorinated chicken does amuse me.

That’s fair enough but I’m on about a world wide ban not just in Britain it’s far bigger than that .
If we don’t use it in Britain that’s sit’s well with me but we do tinned import of Corned Beef Etc Etc Etc
from these countries . I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s used in a lot of our daily intake of beef or by products .
The Rain Forest has been cut down at four or five time’s the rate of any other other President this one is holding the world to random and if it continues it’s pointless us putting up wind farms and little bits of forest .

There’s nothing amusing or even ironIc if you don’t know you’re eating or buying it though. Apparently the The proAmerican lobbyists are wanting to change the way we label food so it doesn’t show country of origin and will probably want to go further and have barely any description. Green issues, Animal welfare, hygiene, safe eating, are not exclusive concerns/issues of a political ideology or party, they cut across all sections of society.

There is given the noise made over the chicken yet they'll quite happily chomp on Roid raised beef.

I suspect that the majority of people dont know where their food comes from or even care as long as it fits their budget(s). Iceland frozen chicken for example was processing Thailand at one point. A lot of fresh chicken is from Eastern Europe. A lot of fruit and salads.. They are washed in Chlorine Water...

Infact, I reckon it would be safe to say if the Anti Trump/Brexit crowd hadnt picked up on the Chicken the overwhelming majority of us would be non the wiser...
