The other option is to become so consumed with hate, it destroys your life even more. Like someone else said, hard to know what you'd do, hope that I and any of my friends/family never have to find out
I once had the privilege of listening to Sara Payne at a meeting. It is hard to find anyone who has suffered more. She spoke against "throwing away the key" and suchlike, and very strongly in favour of measures aimed at reform and rehabilitation. She said (paraphrased) that when we fail in that, all we do is create more victims. I have never forgotten the impression her words made that day.
That’s the point. If it was me or mine I’d want him strung up and I’d happily pay the judge to make it happen. which is exactly why our system is good. Victims have the least reasonable view of justice.
Just like there are so many football experts on this forum, I'm willing to wager we have an equal number of legal experts as well. Others have already said on here how they admire people who can forgive those that have committed horrible crimes. Personally I've never come close to being in a position to pass judgement on someone that has affected my life in such a way (and long may it continue) To those that have said string them up (or words to that effect) I'd ask them this: a) Are they Christians? - me I'm not a Christian (athiest) but I'm closer to 'turning the other cheek' than string them up. b) If, by taking another life, are they not compounding the error? c) Could they kill someone themselves, and if so, what would happen to them if, later on, they were proved to be innocent?
Very good post. Point C is especially interesting. Having watched a couple of Clive Stafford Smith documentaries about the US justice system, it's notable how many people involved in administering the death penalty later ended up with PTSD and / or being extremely vocal opponents of capital punishment.
I really hope we put it down in writing when we "sold" him to Hull City that he had this court case hanging over him. We don't want them finding another vague excuse to not pay the next installment of his fee. It doesnt seem to matter its in the public domain as with Angus, they are still likely to withhold payment!
Just been acquitted with a fine. Taking all on and off pitch aspects into account - it’s better he is someone payroll cost
Not jailed cos his nice new Hull contract would come to an end. Fairly sure if I was jailed my job would suddenly come to an end too!! He's had bit going on in his teen years, not all good but a bit of tragedy there too. Let's hope he can raise a family free from trouble and make the most of his undoubted talent.
