He may even end up making Mel Machin look exciting.

I felt in the short period Murray was in charge we were improving on the Stendel championship reign. As for the players dropped or loaned Cavare was outstanding going forward strong quick and could have improved defensively, Thiam scored fantistic goals againd quick and strong and would have improved fitness wise Mcgeehan and Mowatt were fantastic in the centre of midfield in league 1 and could have taken that on further but because of a couple of misses Mcgeehan was bombed out, Pinnilos had quality and experience at this level, Dougal following his injury never given a chance and again would have added strength to the midfield, Green quick exciting never given a chance. Too much has been asked of Oduor, Styles, Simeos, Williams, Anderson, Brown, Chaplin, ludwig. We had the experience of a group of players that had played together for a year, we didnt sell these players the managers dropped them and didnt give them any chances. Instead they played young players out of their depth in systems and positions that they werent used to or suited to, Murray didnt do that he played all these players in a formation that allowed us to compete.
Im not saying we would have stayed up but i do thing we would have been stronger than we have been under Struber and Stendel.

How are we in a position where we're going on about the current manager when the current manager would have us lower mid-table if the season started from his first game?

Nobody would argue Cavare was good going forward. But there's been question marks over his attitude regardless of the manager, and his defensive attitude has been suspect no matter what. Not sure how we're now saying Green deserved a chance either. Sign of how bad things have got today

I am comparing it to how bad things are now, the facts are we played some fantastic football last season and a lot of those players Mcgeehan, Cavare, Pinnilos, Thiam, Bahre, Green, Dougal have not been sold by the board but simply bombed out for the majority of the season and i am saying if Stendel and Struber hadnt done that our squad would have been stronger than it is now because i would have liked to see all them players ive named on the pitch over the last 3 games as we have thrown away any chance of staying up.

The gulf in class between the two divisions is huge. No greater evidence of that is than the three promoted teams currently occupying three of the bottom four positions in the table.

Dougall wasn't played by Stendel, Murray or Struber. That tells it's own story for me.

We have such short memories as Barnsley fans. McGeehan was terrible at the start of the season.

I saw all the games but its a long season and things could have improved, i dont think we improved our squad by disvountinh these players this year.

I’m not sure Stendel bombed all them out. He played Cavare, McGeehan & Thiam a few times at the start of the season & all were poor but I thought they were all regulars in the squad up to his sacking.

Dougall said he was ready to play 4 weeks earlier when he made his return but two of them were an international break & he hadn’t played any U23 games. My guess is that Stendel didn’t want to rush back a player recovering from a broken leg. I find it hard to believe that he preferred to play Sibbick in central midfield over him if everyone was fit.

He definitely didn’t bomb Bahre out, he made him captain, he didn’t start every game but he was involved. It was Murray that bombed him out if I remember right.

I don’t think Green’s anywhere near good enough.

Maybe Pinillos deserved a run to try & rediscover his best form but he wasn’t anything special at league one level & he has a massive issue with his lack of pace at championship level.

I think this board & the previous one must love a lot of our fans as they just blame the managers for everything.

What’s crazy is I regularly see other clubs losing one or two key players & falling to pieces yet we lose half a team & then when it takes time for them to gel the new players our fans start blaming the manager. I just don’t get it.

Hull lose two key players & completely fall to pieces. I think they’ve won one game since the close of the transfer window.

The other season Swansea flogged one key player, Sigurdsson & went from a comfortable mid table prem side to one that got relegated.

Chelsea sold Hazard & despite having an outstanding squad with some outstanding youngsters all we’ve heard all season is how tough it is for him without Hazard.

If you look at Heckingbottom’s first team in his first championship season & compare it to his first team in the second season only Davies, Angus & Yiadom remained with subs Hammill & Bradshaw becoming first choice, the rest of the team were all new signings that were inexperienced kids. Instead of understanding that it would take a long time for these players to gel many fans genuinely believed that he went from been a really good manager to a really bad one over night.

If you look at Stendel’s first team last season & compare it to this he lost Davies, Pinnock, Lindsay & Moore. Not as many but 4 of our best 6 players in my opinion & they were replaced by inexperienced kids. Again, instead of understanding that it would take a long time for these players to gel many went from thinking Stendel was a good manager to a bad one overnight.

The point is you’re blaming the wrong people time after time & you’ll probably do the same again if & when Struber or the next manager has a big turnover of players & has to try & gel them. It isn’t healthy to lose so many players in one go & while ever we keep doing it we’ll have seasons like this one.

I think you'll find that 90% of fans are with you on this. Some of those 90% might be blaming the manager, but the majority are sighting the turnover of players as the main reason we're struggling as well. The anger towards the owners out there is real.

You’re probably right it’s just the other 10% are often the loud minority. I’ve seen posts on tykes talk today saying the players aren’t trying, how **** the manager is etc.

Well that was a long read... eleven pages. Good effort.

    My two-penneth:

The op has about as convincing an argument for the apportioning of blame as Boris Johnson had for Covid deaths in care homes.

jph77 probably didn’t ought to be let anywhere near Oakwell again, just in case he smells a chicken balti pie or they have a French lager on. Can’t be doing with any of that foreign muck can’t jph... you know what I can’t be doing with? Bigoted, xenophobic fcukwits.

Struber has a better ppg than Stendel at this level. He also inherited a squad with a third of a season championship experience behind them, who had learned about eachother. He was allowed to sign two older and more experienced players, which when asked for by the previous manager got him the sack (under the proviso that he was sacked for something that happened months before).

Would we have stayed up under Stendel? We will never know. Maybe not. We may or may not have stayed up if Heckingbottom had stayed two years ago, instead of getting Morais. We probably would have stayed up this season if we hadn’t sold all of the players we did last summer.

There is one common denominator throughout all of that period.

That period, to be fair, also includes a promotion; earned after selling our best goal scorer and replacing him with a punt (Woodrow worked out more than ok, but you have to say that was more luck than judgement as he’d hardly pulled trees up at Burton and Bristol the seasons previous) - then selling another key player in January (Potts) and not replacing him at all, whilst letting another fringe player join a competitor for promotion on loan (Moncur). They won the league. Good work.

All sorts of opinions. Here’s mine. It is the fault of these owners and their methods. Almost entirely.

We have been relegated because of them. We are likely to be again.

We were promoted with them - though in the face of decisions which could (and should) have derailed the season.

We will probably be relegated this season whilst both Wigan Athletic and Hull City may survive - just - with assets sold to them cheaply by us before or during the season who clearly strengthened them. After we finished second to a team last season who we strengthened.

So to sum up my response regarding the OP opinion: we have a manager who was allowed to sign his experienced mates, plays them both every week despite one of them looking like a raffle or competition winner as he can’t actually be a real footballer; a manager who has, whilst reducing the number we concede, turned us into a completely toothless attacking outfit which would struggle to score in a brothel; often playing our best centre forward in midfield, central midfielders on the wing, young wingers up front and second rate full backs in central defence when there’s a centre back on the bench.

We have a board who’d sell its granny for ten bob, who do a cracking impression of Harry Houdini when things go wrong but who were about as shy as David Walliams when we got promoted.

And the fault for our current position is apparently the manager who got the tin tack for asking for an experienced centre back.

    Yeah. I reckon I don’t really agree.

Seen those too. But they are usually accompanied with 'Conway out', 'Why can't we be like Preston and Brentford', and '**** Billy Beane'.

Surely if this was true we'd have cashed in on Mowatt, Woodrow and anyone else in January? That's why I think the sentiment of this is exaggerated.

That ignores what I just said?

I'd fully expect everyone to become a selling club this Summer - especially us. It's either that or not have a club to support.

This is utter sh*t to be fair. If you throw a group of kids together who have no experience of football at this level or of playing with each other then they're naturally going to do better in the latter stages of a season. I said at the start of the season I expected relegation form until Christmas and then an upturn in form afterwards. It was obvious to anyone with a hole in their arse that we were going to get better as the season progressed. I won't credit Struber for that - as I see it his tactics and selections have at times been baffling. Why is he playing a diamond when some of our best assets are wingers? Why can't he get a decent performance from Woodrow, our best player? What's with the inexplicable favouritism/freezing players out? Did Ritzmaier catch Oduor shagging Struber's wife and beat him up for him or summat?

I'd much rather have seen a Stendel team turn out against Stoke, Luton and Wigan than the fvcking dross we had to watch.

How do we know our best assets are wingers when we lost so many games before he took over? Everything else you say is a pretty valid argument, apart from it being a bit too vicious.

Oduor isn't even a LB really. He needs to play at the base of the diamond or in the middle of a 4-4-2.

You're talking ********. We had one win in the first sixteen games under Stendel and Murray, then Struber had an immediate effect getting three wins in his first seven games.
