Can’t speak for 7000 but I can account for two. I renewed for me and the lad because these owners aren’t ever going to fund the club; I don’t like how they run it from a sporting point of view but at least it isn’t being run into oblivion and out of existence. The club, not the owners, need financial support. My small contribution gives that. 7000 season tickets, even at the price paid, makes us quite a big fish in league one too. As I stated in another thread, we were promoted with (arguably despite) these owners before, we can again.
I’m not saying we can’t be promoted again but it’ll be a lot more difficult than last time. The squad as it is minus Woodrow and Mowatt won’t be good enough, no where near. Three or four decent quality signings in the right areas with the right experience are a must. Where have I heard that before.....??
Because I have supported the club. since I was taken to a match by my Dad at the age of 5 back in a long time ago. I worked overseas for 30 years, but took every opportunity to watch them when I could. Now I am retired and back in Barnsley I will always renew my season pass and support them whatever league they are in. "Funding" the club doesn't mean spending money recklessly on players who may or may not make the grade. Look what has happened to Wigan. I agree with Troff, as long as the board supports the club and we have a sensible financial model that ensures our existence then I won't criticise them too much. The young player model may have been flawed and we could have added some experience without breaking the bank. Just look what adding a more experienced defender in Sollbauer the "Kindergarten Cop" he calls himself has done. Apart from the Stoke game - which was a bad day at the office - we have kept clean sheets. Had we done that earlier in the season under Stendel (who?) we wouldn't be in this position now. We need a miracle to stay up and let that begin today with Stoke losing.. and Leeds winning.... Amen (It is a Sunday after all)
I don't know as I trust the owners. But I love the club, so here's my money. It would take a lot worse than we've had in terms of ownership to stop me going.
Why where do you think Mowatt gonna go ? Cauleys bideing his time till he signs for someone who he probably knows right now . Not sure about the others imo . Can’t see suitors queuing up for a toothless team that’s got relegated .
I think that these players might really come good in League 1. I like them a lot, and I wouldn't be surprised to see us promoted again. But if that happens we all know that the club will sell them, and we'll start over again in the Championship with a new team of kids. Sometimes I think I'm lucky that I live 100 miles away, and don't have to make the decision to turn up every week. Listening on iplayer is hard enough.
Can see the likes of Stoke picking them up, given that they know we'll sell for buttons and can't come close to competing on salary.
That’s pretty much why I have renewed in terms of offering the club a little bit of financial support. We all know the owners won’t do that as we are nothing more than a project to them. However this is our club and our community which means more to us than these so called owners will ever know . The 7,000 renewals should help us make ends meet in league 1 at least. We will have to wait and see as to how successful we can be on the pitch.
I just don’t think Mowatts done enough for teams to make a bid tbh . If it were us I’d be underwhelmed . Cauleys the only one for me . Maybe Chaplin at a push .
I think any lower table Championship side would sign Woodrow at the moment, just as Millwall signed Bradshaw. Most of them could easily sign Chaplin, even just to sit on the bench. Brown might become the next James Bree. I suppose we could hang on to Mowatt, but I still think he's good enough for somebody else to want him eventually, and as soon as that happens we can't compete. With the state the club's currently in it's just a matter of time. This season, next season, who cares?
I used to think Mowatt was going to replace Hourihane but despite his effort he hasn't hit the spot for me. Maybe that's because they're two different types of player? When he was at Leeds he looked like he was the type of player that would score about 10 to 15 goals a season from midfield. I never saw him as a holding midfielder at all. I thought he was going to drive through the middle and score goals from open play. Not so much a play maker but a Howard/ Redfearn type midfielder. It hasn't materialised at all. Still first name on team sheet but left wondering what might have been. I think he's wasted at the base of the diamond, that said his set pieces have been terrible for two seasons now.
Last time we were relegated no one came in for any of our so called prized assets. Lindsay, Davies, Potts, Pinnock and Moore were all considered not good enough for the championship. I'm not so sure anyone will be breaking the door down to sign any of the latest crop. Maybe Cauley for scoring goals at a relegated club.
I also can't speak for others but my son and I renewed because we wanted to ensure the continued existence of the club. We also enjoy the time we spend together travelling to and from the match and at the match itself. Although tbh there have been occasions this season when the level of frustration has actually spoiled the day rather than enriched it. Somehow it just doesn't feel like 'our' club any more. I've been watching the Reds since 1968 and have never felt so disengaged with it as a do atm. For those reasons, we've decided that we'll attend far fewer matches next season and will be selective about those we do. For what it's worth, I think it's very likely that Mowatt and Woodrow will go. Mowatt won't extend his contract and so will be made available and there'll be championship clubs who'll want him. Woodrow has been poor since lockdown but nevertheless is a very good player and will have several options I think. I think Brown is the other most likely to leave. I know his finishing has been poor this season but I still think there'll be teams who see potential and we'll sell if we get anything like a decent offer. No evidence to support this but I think Chaplin may stay. I think we may be in League One for some time.
So is "the club" different from the business controlled by the owners? Surely the owners are "the club" as things stand?
This is what gets me. Players not good enough for the Championship after a relegation season then become good enough for the Championship after a promotion season in L1. How is that, when the standard in L1 is lower, and everyone knows and can see the gap is widening
