In response to the highlighted part of your post, Kev - I find that incredibly sad to read.

The club needs its supporters, the fanbase now more than ever. And from a personal perspective, and I know I'm not alone at the club in feeling like this - I fúcking care. I notice. And your absence will not be felt comfortably by me.

I'll miss hearing you shout me pre-match as I make my way by the Ponty End for starters!

There's probably nothing I can do/say, but if by some miracle there is (and I've said this to others before) please get in touch and I'll try my best.

People never seem to take into account that if a player your selling has 1 year left on their contract then your gonna get a fraction of what you would if you had them on a 5 year. What do you expect the board to do if they won’t sign a new deal? Thats just being smart in my eyes and cashing in while you can before they end up going for nothing...

There'll probably be a young lad who'll be attending for the first time next season, they'll instantly fall in love with the club, players and atmosphere & still be attending in 2072. Life goes on, Andy. It's time for someone else to become the gorilla-sized Happy Clapper!:D
I'll definitely miss your smiling face and warm greeting every time we meet. It's no secret just how much respect I have for you and your family.

I'm really sorry to hear that JLWBigLil but completely understand your reasoning and respect your decision. Somehow it seems symbolic of the loss of too many long term supporters like you that seems to be happening.

I've never lived in Barnsley, my Mum and Dad were born in Kendray and the nearest I came was Holmfirth but over the years I've been privileged and proud to be part of the Barnsley FC community and losing comrades, particularly long term ones like you is sad. And worrying for the future of the club in my view.

Noooooooooo, I can't believe you of all people has had enough, end of an era, very sad day . I can understand your decision as it's not looking good for future with these owners. I hope someday things change and you return. All the best for the future Kev from 2679.

Thank you for your kind comments, old mate. They're much appreciated.
I have the utmost respect for the fans who have chosen to purchase season passes and will not descend to asinine jeering towards folk simply for holding an alternative viewpoint.

Sad day reading this my friend, though totally understandable and I certainly respect your decision. My late Father followed Barnsley through thick and thin for 45 years. His last game was a 2-1 home win over Watford in 1991, under Machin, whose approach to football finished my Dad off. He still cared deeply for the football club but couldn't watch the sterile and turgid stuff that Machin produced. He never returned to Oakwell.

I turn 46 in August, it'll be my 30th successive season ticket and 40th season following Barnsley, but competing pressures from the cost of having my eldest at University until 2024 do make you think carefully. I have to be honest and say I haven't missed the football one bit and whilst I thought it'd be a struggle to fill my weekends, I've done lots of things even in the context of the restrictions in place.

The club will miss you, and I know a lot us will. You've set the bar for fair, civil and reasoned debate on this forum, and having met you briefly a few times, you're the same in person as behind a username on here. Keep sharing your pearls of wisdom.

The current feeling around the club is very "meh", I just hope (rather than expect) next season is more positive on and off the pitch.

    Blimey! I'm blushing!:D Thank you.
I'll still post on here, old mate (you can't get shut of me that easily!:D), but I won't pass comment on the matches, just the highlights.

I think you need to at least keep your options open young man. Like you I’m a long time supporter (44 years) who isn’t renewing because of the owners and their footballing incompetence (no I don’t believe they are trying to bleed the Club dry, they’re just useless). However, I’ll still be attending some matches home and away.
I cling to the hope they won’t be here for ever, or they learn and improve (sorry about that last one, I seemed to drift off into a fantasy land where reality never impinges for just a moment).

Kev, I’m getting off the point. Hang on in there. It’s still our Club and things will get better. In the meantime, take care.

I just got to a stage where even when I attended I spent more time day dreaming and looking round the stadium than the actual pitch. Leaving at half -time or not turning up at all. I bought a season ticket this season but only attended the Fulham game. It had lost it's lustre. I can't even watch a match all the way through on the television anymore. I've got the free Ifollow pass n' haven't watched any of the matches during the run-in.

It's a few things for me. Laura came with me until she got more heavily pregnant and she made me watch the matches all the way through even when we lost. When she didn't renew with me because we were expecting George it didn't feel right without her. We have friends who we meet up with before and during the games but it isn't the same. Fulham game was lonely.

Then there's the fact after being at work all week i'd rather be at home with George and Laura. She asked me before lock down if I was going every time we were at home. I said no I can't be bothered. I think she might have wanted rid lol.

I think I'll come back with Laura when George is old enough to come with us.

This is definitely true. I had a season ticket for 25 years from being a young kid but, I guess in a similar way to yourself with these guys, I just didn’t want to finance the club’s previous ownership; it’s amazing how quickly you get out of something that you thought was a lifetime ingrained habit.

It’s only the last three years that I’ve started going again - had a season ticket for the last couple but I don’t attend religiously like I did before I stopped going.

I've got the solution, you stay home with baby George and Laura has the season ticket. When I was sat in East stand lower there was a bloke who took his kid from a tiny baby. She was so well behaved, good as gold. Took my son to about age 10 before he could sit through a match!!

Kids eh, took my lad to his first game, Lincoln v Mansfield cos it was local, score was 4-3 and never saw a goal, then took him to Oakwell aged 6 v Wolves in 96 and he spent next few weeks talking about Wolves cos he liked the name.

Phew! I was really starting to worry that we might be losing our Chief Archivist. Thank heaven that's not the case. I really enjoy your astounding memory feats - tales of who got the winner at Rochdale in 1967 and such like.

This has to be one of the saddest threads I've read in a long time. I fully respect anyone's decision not to renew, but it's heartbreaking to hear of long-term supporters opting out, especially when they've been so passionate in their support over the years.

Enjoy your grandkids, mate, but I hope you return to the fold at some point in the future. Maybe with the grandkids in tow... :)
