Not putting a curse on this season but if we do go down and lose Woodrow and Brown (Mowatt not sure)
I think we have enough to come back, up, some of the players seem to have grown a pair in this battle and could well perform above league 1 level ( Anderson, Styles, Simones) what does anyone else think ???

Left and right fullback/wingback, a CDM, a CM, CAM, Striker with height all needed and that's before anyone leaves.

My worry is having had this season to gain experience the hard way, a successful season in league 1 key players will be sold on if we get promoted next season . Theoretically not, because they would still have two years left on their contract but that seems not to matter much.

I don’t think we have enough to be honest. Look at the games we’ve struggled this season, mainly against the rough and ready teams. Stoke, Luton for example.

League one is full of teams like that. Nobody is going to come to oakwell and not try bully us. We’re only kids after all.

Hopefully we won’t find out and get the results we need Wednesday.

Think we’d still need to bring in a few with a bit more experience.

Depends who we manage to keep hold of too - I reckon Mowatt and Woodrow would 100% be going. Maybe Brown. Sollbauer has hinted that he might go if we go down. Chaplin? Maybe we could keep hold of him - hopefully anyway!

So if all those guys went we’d be looking pretty light on quality. Need to get a striker with some physicality either way - maybe two or even three strikers with those leaving.
If Sole goes we’ll need an experienced CB.
Full back is a weak area - Odour needs a run though, he’s quality.

I think Woodrow will go - and it wouldn’t surprise me to hear that he already knows where he’s going.
I hope Mowatt goes - if we stay in the Championship because I don’t think he’s good enough for this division.
I hope Brown goes - if the manager thinks he’s a forward. Anyone else notice how cr@p he played as a striker against Forest - but then played really well when he dropped deeper ???

Other than that - I’m hoping all the others stay.
My only concern is that the present squad isn’t tall enough or strong enough for the 1st Division.
Technically the current crop of Barnsley players are too good for the 1st Division - so other teams will plan to clog us off the field.
So we need 3 tall physically strong players.
    Centre half.
    Centre mid.
    Centre forward.

If our newly-crowned player of the season isn't good enough for the Championship, then who in the current squad is?

Halme and Andersen are both 6 foot 5.

There are only two defenders in the entire championship taller than aapo halme.

We need Mowatt what ever division we are in, he is far & away our most experienced championship player & showed both in division one & the championship how valuable he is to our team , one thing is certain , if he does move on from us it won"t be to division one , another championship team will snap him up thus highlighting my point .

Personally think we’re ok at CH even if Sollbauer leaves. Mads and Halme would be quality at that level and then we’d have Bambo as back up if he’s ever allowed to play again. Plus there’s Sibbick too.
Reckon we need an experienced head in midfield and a couple of strikers, one of them being Sam Winnall.

Both as far thru as a cig coupon.
    Tall but NOT physically strong.
And that’s probably something to do with their young age.
Physical strength is a bigger factor in the lower leagues and we ain’t got any.
Hence the successful season with Lindsay, Pinnock and Moore.

I can run quicker than Mowatt.
He’s too slow - plus he isn’t brave enough when releasing the ball or shooting.
Barnsley have persistently looked at him to produce something - and that’s one of the reasons we are where we are.

If he stays - as the season progresses others will take his 1st team spot eg Styles, Simoes.

So, by your own admission, he'd be a 1st team starter in the team at the start of the season then, despite not being good enough?

Yes - because we haven’t got a replacement.
But Styles and Simoes will only get better.
If we get relegated then we have a good 1st Division player in Mowatt.
    He just isn’t Championship level.
I think when he got loaned out to Oxford the manager realised his shortcomings.

I stand by what I said , Mowatt is championship class & when he moves on it will not be in a downward direction . I take it you did not see the match yesterday where he covered every inch of grass on the pitch & led from the front , at our club he is one we should be building a team around .

Even I could cover every inch of the field.
    Dosen’t mean I’d be effective.
Not in the same league as that other Leeds cast off McPhail.
We just missed out on Norwood who would have made a much bigger difference in that position.

Dropping into League 1 next season is a huge unknown. The current clubs are discussing a salary cap and it is rumoured to being close to being agreed. Obviously at this point none of the relegated teams have been involved in the discussion but it could have a huge effect on our ability to bring players in. Norwich are complaining about the same situation dropping into the championship. There will have to be some sort of dispensation for relegated teams but how much?

We’re a bit short on physical presence. Last time we had Moore, Pinnock, Lindsay, Cavare, Thiam - even Dougall had a bit of grit about him. The current crop are a bit lightweight for League One. Halme would probably be class.
