Wigan and Sheffield Wednesday are set to avoid relegation from the Championship as a result of their financial dealings with any points deductions imposed by the EFL's independent panel to be a https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/f...-Wednesday-AVOID-relegation-Championship.html
Wednesday I can see getting away with it because they are massive after all. Wigan, on the other hand, they went into admin. How is there any way out for that? Hopefully the article is as accurate about it as it is for when they think the last games of the season are being played.
The headline in the Mail article appears to be complete ********, based on the wording that Rob Staton has quoted, saying that Wigan's deduction will apply immediately after Wednesday night's game, subject to appeal.
That article doesn’t make sense. Wigan’s punishment is already in place, 12 points will be deducted this season or next depending on their league position?
Great news for Rotherham. Promoted by default and now probably saved from relegation by default! Not much use to us though but hardly a surprise...
Just been on Sky sports news.. Wigan will receive the 12 pts deduction this season, applied after this weeks game.
But other clubs have had a 12 point deduction for entering administration its mandatory it's in the rules. If Wigan's gets deducted or rescinded it's not very fair on the others who have been given the deduction in previous seasons.
Simple question ... did Wigan go into admin or not ? As the answer is yes then the penalty is a 12 point deduction. It's in the rules, it applies to everybody. I cannot see how they could possibly appeal this. It cannot be argued. If they escape by winning their last game then fair play, they did it by "merit" and no-one could argue.
I read today somewhere that Wigan have already had their appeal laughed out by the FL because of their claim that Admin was exceptional circumstances due to CV19. The takeover happened during lockdown and evidence was provided that they had funds to see them through. Fck em
I fully expect any points deduction for Sheffield Wednesday to be made next season though. As their alleged financial misconduct is in relation to the accounts for the 2018-19 season, I'm sure the EFL will say there's no specific reason for it to apply to the 2019-20 season. Barnsley's complaint will be ignored I expect...
