The article is a snapshot of the ten minute interview. Can't include everything otherwise it would be pages and pages long
The reason why we failed for much of this season was purely defensive. Really basic errors cost us a bucket load of points. A lot depends on whether we can keep the experienced core together. And I suspect we won't and once again ask rookies to learn quicker than is possible in this division. I just hope the board at last will surprise me.
Each to their own I guess. I quite liked hearing him call out the young players for their impact during the lockdown games. We all know it's true of the others throughout the season.
I agree that we need to strengthen next year but I think people forget the number players we brought in following the 'Flitcroft survival season'. Apart from O'Grady - who was already on loan - Flitcroft brought in another 9 players to "strengthen" that team and the fact they didn't is probably down a mixture of poor recruitment and poor management. Thank god for the spreadsheet eh
Listened to it on Football Heaven App. He’s good int he - we just need to hear more from him. As for his comments - I don’t think we should keep this squad together totally. It definitely needs improvements. IMO - we need: 1) A replacement for Mowatt. Most forward play goes through that position - and he just isn’t good enough at this level. A brilliant loan signing - another Jan Molby would set these young players on fire. 2) Strong target man that has ability to bring others into play. Just watch Chaplin and Schmidt thrive off that. 3) A quick striker/winger - because Brown isn’t a forward. He looks poor in that position - which is a shame because as a wing back he’s very good.
I disagree , his priority is to get Mowatt an extended contract , our player of the year for the last two years is clearly our best championship player & we must build around him , his pace is of no concern , you only had to watch Scott Parker play at Oakwell , he never got out of the centre circle but controlled the game & Mowatt apart from being still young, brings a wealth of experience at this level to the side , priceless !
That is the serious concern for me personally. Just because some of these lads have stuttered through a championship season doesn't make them championship standard. For all the great wins against Brentford, Fulham etc there's been plenty of Stoke and Wigan performances. Quality additions needed.
I wouldn’t say they stuttered through the season at all. That would suggest they barely got going. When reality tells us they grew into the season, and by its end, were in good form. What that means for a new season is up for debate. I personally want very little movement in or out.
Maybe not the best expression but I do feel at least 4 quality first team players 'ready to go' are needed. Again I don't necessarily believe it needs to be older players, just quality players that can perform straight away at this level. I wouldn't expect Williams, ritzmaier or brown to be in a championship starting 11 so that's 3 positions straight away.
Very little movement out but some much needed experience needs employing .an..older head or too just to steady the ship when needed...an older spine then fill it up with young uns who run all day long..
I disagree, no team can play "brilliant" all the time, and can have an off day. Just look at Liverpool - losing to Watford away, 3.0! What are they thinking? They must be rubbish losing to a team that got relegated! No they are Champions of England, bacause a league is a competition over 9 (or 11) months. Struber's impact has been immense since he arrived and even greater since lockdown ended. Admitted we need to improve in areas but to say they have stuttered through a Championship campaign is simply not true.
Stuttered may be a bit harsh but I think some reinforcement is needed, if only from an injury pov. We ve been quite lucky re. injuries since Struber came but I doubt that will continue indefinitely. I'm sure this squad will continue to develop, and will be a joy to watch. I'm really excited for next season but if we do lose Mowatt we need someone experienced (and probably older) to marshall the midfield surely?
I agree. We've already moved out Pinillos, Dougall, Wilks, Radlinger & Thiam, as well as Ludwig returning to his parent club. One wonders how many of the returning loanees (Sibbick, Green, Adeboyejo, McGeehan, Miller) will be part of Struber's future plans. Hopefully, we bring in a few players, but not the huge number seen previously.
You are right to a point, but you are singling out certain one off games to highlight your point. One of which we didn't actually lose AND the fact that we drew it (Wigan) means we have the right to Championship football next season.(we hope, fingers crossed).
