What about us 'outsiders' ? Do we count? Born in Barnsley - first 2 years in Gawber - 16 years in Smithies.

Now 32 years in Liverpool.. can I be in the tarn club ? :)

that's right - I bumped into someone this morning who I recognised from Oakwell and I thought I'd ask him about the Wigan business.
I said 'You're a Barnsley fan aren't you' and he said 'Yes, I'm from Tarn!'
So for him Tarn is synonymous with BFC.

Nothing whatsoever to do with Barnsley fc. I think anyone within the Borough could count themselves as a 'tarner' if they so wished. I'm sure many wouldn't, particularly those well into the outskirts.

I thought St helens was the maternity ward ?
That’s where I was born anyway and according to my dad Tom Treddlehoyle was the expectant dads waiting room as you couldn’t even be in the hospital then .

Born in St. Helens Hospital (the former Barnsley workhouse) which in the 1930s, 40s & 50s was the main maternity hospital in Barnsley.

The question was "from Tarn" not just "Tarn".

I come from Thurnscoe, moved to Bolton on Dearne when I was 4. Both lie within the borough of Barnsley. If anyone asks me where I'm from I say Barnsley, but I've never called it "tarn", nobody did round there when I grew up.

Born just at the end of the war in Kendray at my grandma's house in Gerald Road in my uncle's bedroom when he was serving in the Navy. Nowhere else to live due to housing shortage. Schooled at St. Joseph's on Kendray Hill looking out over Oakwell. Tarn right through to the core. Barnsley fan till I die. Son and grandson of Barnsley fans, father and grandfather of the next generations. Two fingers to the rest.
( Had a couple when I wrote this, but still on a high from Brentford. Not usually emotional.)

My 13year old daughter who was born in Portugal attends school over there and has lived with her Portuguese mother in Portugal for most of her young life.. And she only Comes here for about 6 weeks over the course of a year... Speaks at times with a strong Barnsley twang... Within a week of being here and being with my grandkids she speaks as broad as them... Her mother plays holy hell with us both when she goes home...for the way she speaks

Some years ago whilst I was living out there... the teacher of her English class phoned her mother to ask what old language my daughter was learning as she would say yella... Instead of yellow... Watter instead of water.. Guin instead of going the list was endless. .
At an early age she could and still can flip between both languages one day whilst she was attending nursery we found out that one of the young lads was targeting her and bullying her to the point we had to speak with the nursery principle such was the on going problem... His parents apologised no end of times for his behaviour explaining he had tantrum issues and lashed out.. The nursery were aware but were doing nothing of substance to keep our daughter safe saying children are children
So after trying my hardest to teach her not only kindness compassion and non violent ways I informed her that the next time he went to push her kick her or punch her she had to point at him aggressively and raise her voice and say that's naughty stop it now... If it doesn't stop him tell him out right he will get this on his nose adding then make a fist... If that doesn't stop him then hit him straight on the nose as hard as you hit daddy when we are acting about.... Many will say that's wrong violence doesn't really solve a thing...
2 days later we get a telephone call from the nursery principle demanding we go to school and pick our daughter up.... As she's being expelled ..
Off we go .. And on arriving at school we meet the parents of the said boy on the way out in his mother's arms covered in blood.. The mother was wailing like a screaming banshee .. as she carried him out... The father just looked at me gave a slight shrug of his shoulders a little grin and walked to his car... Adding some days later it serves him right hopefully he will stop all this bullying...
The Portuguese principle told us my daughter had uttered some sort of sentence similar to demonic chanting before hitting him square on the nose and was therefore expelled and in her opinion we should see a priest over her demonic rant...
We argued our case but to no avail...the principle slating me for encouraging violence when I said I'm not chastising her she's done as she was told he's hit punched and on one occasion bit her so she's done right... In my eyes he will think twice about picking on her again..... Bad dad .. Advice apparently lol
When we get back to the car I tell her daddy's not mad at her and I ask her now we are sat here tell daddy what happened .. She says he pushed me I pushed him back.. He then hit me and I shouted at him.... Did you say it in Portuguese I asked... No daddy she replies... So what did you say and do I asked...
She replied I made a fist and said ....
If tha dunt giore tha gerrin this on thi nu'es and he didn't stop so I hit him ...
Then what happened I asked..from behind clench teeth...taking in a deep breath .
.. . I booted him in the face when he fell down....
Oh dear I said... And you didn't say any off it in Portuguese I added....
She shook her little head pulled a sad puzzled face and asked .... Why.... He would have known what I was saying ...lol
