Breaks record for fastest win.. 108 mins to win 10-1.. wow.. Pter Ebdon would have just finished his break shot in that time... Normally about 25 mins per frame down at the local Working Mens Club..
I think he will win it this year. He doesn't like being bothered so no fans there asking for an autograph or photo or chat when all he wants to do is arrive, play and leave will suit him perfectly.
Dont think fans make any difference to him at all. If anything he has all the support. Honestly, the hassle for autographs is not that great compared to other top sportsmen.
Watched his game yesterday. Absolutely brilliant. Surprised to hear him say he prefers it without the fans being there as there are no pressures or distractions. I wouldn't be surprised if he went through to the final and won the trophy outright.
I think there are other more consistent performers on the circuit at the minute that have his measure. Trump, Wilson, Higgins, Selby and Robertson don't seem to get intimidated by him and if he isn't 100 per cent they'll beat him. He doesn't have an aura about him anymore. He lost his mojo against Selby in 2014. Trump showed him in the Masters final the other year whose boss now.
On form though, unplayable... Can't see Ding beating him, he didnt't look too impressive in his last match..
He’s the greatest player to pick up a cue and when he’s on his game, he’d wipe the floor with all of them. Absolutely mind boggling that when I first started watching snooker, he was just starting out. Unbelievable longevity, and whilst it’s some time since he last lifted the world title, he’s always in with a chance. The likes of Davis and Hendry were unreal themselves but couldn’t replicate their success once they got older. Ronnie has continued to rack up titles despite his advancing years. Legend of a sportsman and won’t be another one like him. He will go down as the greatest ever, the greatest there will ever be. He’s that good. The fact he plays like he does (at speed) only adds to his enigmatic persona. Yes, I’m a huge Ronnie fan.
I think the shorter format suits him better because he hasn't got as much waiting around between matches.
Clearly the talented playst Snooker has ever seen. Enjoy watching play but I take little notice of anything he has to say.
Exactly. I loved Paul Gascoigne as a footballer, but I didn't take up wife-beating or raging alcoholism.
I've had some quick games of snooker in the past it's quite easy. Theoretically you could have a frame finishing 21-20 without any fouls and missing after every red potted. Me and my mate used to go to Kellingley club and rattle off frames like confetti.
Even so, 9 ish minutes a frame? I get that you can essentially win a frame by potting just 10 balls, but to do it consistently throughout essentially 10 straight frames is unreal. Ronnie can beat anyone he likes whenever he likes. He's the only person stopping himself from winning everything, every season.
Probably helped that his opponent is the fastest player on the circuit, with Ronnie preferring to play at quicker pace this would have helped him even when he wasn't making big breaks. When you play a slower player it can slow you down too.
Agree with this. He’s one of those extraordinary sportsman that tend to come around once in a lifetime. Alex Higgins was as talented though, just didn’t have the longevity for obvious reasons. Would have loved to have seen them both in the same era and in their prime. Snooker’s equivalent of Messi vs. Ronaldo
It helps you when you're playing a quick player that knocks balls in. Instead of scattering them around the table knocking them all safe. If someone is potting for fun it helps my game too because they miss whilst they're in they leave me in the right place.
