I'm attempting to re-educate a few of them on Twitter. They *genuinely* believe that the dodgy owner coming in was the only thing that went wrong at the club. I mean seriously! Completely blind to the years of overspending on player wages. It's difficult to convince them otherwise. I'm really trying to find sympathy for their plight, but the vitriol coming our way for no good reason makes that a little difficult.
Did we actually present anything? My understanding is we were there as an interested party and only listened in. On thing im puzzled about is why does the Appeal cost 500k. I get they have to pay all costs but we are talking a couple of days of the commissions time so are we really saying the majority of the money is solicitors fees?
A transvestite association as just posted on Twitter how the tribunal have come to the wrong decision,I dismiss this as it’s a biased association as all its members have a Wigan address
Thanks, I was pretty sure of our position initially but must admit doubt crept in that the panel might go off piste because nothing is ever easy for us... I can't wait to see the full decision to read the arguments and conclusions. As for vetting owners, it's tough - I think the escrow suggestion is a good one if workable, and/or perhaps it should be a condition of any change of ownership that new owner pays for the EFL to instruct independent auditors to carry out investigations and prepare a report on whether they meet the required standard.
A few comments from their forum here. Not for me, not after the behaviour of their club and supporters since full time on the final day. I for one certainly wouldn't be wishing death upon another club which is what I've been reading from those irrelevant six fingered dingle ********. Them sticking their fat beaks in and taking part in OUR hearing after finishing 22nd in the league is the final straw for me. It's Sheffield Utd v West Ham all over again albeit in different circumstances. They'll get the last laugh this time, but I hope that just like the Blades, we'll come back bigger and better in years down the line. *************** Well I certainly don't. What the hell have Barnsley done to deserve to stay up? Nowt! Barnsley didn't reach the points total we had accumulated before we went "into administration". This should be an open and shut case. ************** There was a link to a Barnsley forum on twitter earlier. There was no real argument about why they’d win other than we entered admin so we deserve 12 points innit. What struck me from these whippet botherers was their complete lack of humility or acceptance that they’d been in the relegation zone for over 10 months without exiting it, yet they think they deserve to stay up.
They blamed their owners who became invisible .... .... so they blamed the EFL who followed the proper process (something the wigan fans were pushing for when they claim owners test was needed) ... have they blamed the independent commission yet ... ...... so they blame the club that finished a place above the relegation. If it wasn't us it would be someone else... .... im awaiting who's next in their list....
Exactly. The vitriol for us lot is ridiculous on Twitter and Facebook..... and we've done NOTHING wrong.
Some I’ve seen have quoted our loss last year. What they fail to realise is the year before we broke even, the year before we made a huge profit (can’t remember how much exactly but twice last year’s loss at least) and, this year we would have made a profit I imagine, partly because we sold them Kieffer who they’re now having to sell, to pay the rest of the cash they owe us. No sympathy for the feeble minded.
What more can they do. If a guy turns up with cash and isn’t a criminal. How can they deny him? What the owner does once he takes control in out of the EFLs hands
WE have created the rivalry? You mean they have! And we beat em at Wigan to get into playoffs 2016. That wasn't a bad game
I don’t want to see any club go out of business and feel sorry for their right minded fans and their club. As for the rest .....fk em!
Putting Wigan’s finances in context. Over the last 20 years they have accumulated losses of £65m despite making over £90m from player trading. 20 years ago their turnover was less than £1.5m yet they were losing £1.2m. This increased over the years as the club, funded by Dave Whelan, continually spent more than they turned over in the pursuit of success. Turnover peaked at £54m but losses continued. Each set of account stated the reliance on the owner/parent company to fund the ongoing operations. They have remained within FFP but without the owners support the club was not viable. Without an owner willing to bank roll Wigan they are in a very precarious position.
Funny how their anger isn't directed towards Wendys - I wonder if theyd change their tune if Wendys' points deduction was applied this year and it meant Wigan would stay up... But because it would still relegate them, it's our fault because we survived instead of them. And also played by FFP. And we've run our club properly. You know, all that. Not a fan of rubbing their noses in it, but they're showing their lack of class. We've been in admin and we rattled buckets outside the ground, we didnt go crying about other clubs and trying to find loopholes
