They're a bizarre lot. They've been shafted by their owners, and the EFL, but it's our fault for benefitting from it. Weird behaviour that.

Exactly this. Whilst I wouldn't wish a club to go out of business, the sense of entitlement from some Wigan fans is astonishing. I remember my trip to Springfield Park when Steve Cooper scored in the league cup. A crowd of around 2,000, half of which were from Barnsley, standing on the picnic site behind the goal. They were just a lower league team with not many supporters. A few years on, and Whelan waves his magic wallet and they buy their way to the top. Even then their crowds weren't huge, many apparently Premier League followers, rather than Wigan supporters.

Same with Hull City - been there when there have been nearly as many Barnsley fans as Hull City fans at Boothferry Park. Huge input of ££ and a shiny new stadium, and off they trot to the Premier League. Same with Reading and Bournemouth. I have no problem with them taking their chances, but don't blame everyone else when it all goes belly-up.

In the middle of a pretty rational ‘debate’ with one of them on Twitter. Me pointing out they’d demonstrably overspent, him adamantly denying it. So he suddenly blocks me! It’s pretty clear their facile argument doesn’t even convince themselves He’s @TicsTalk if anyone would like to continue the discussion!

I've suddenly realised why Wigan think they are a well run club after yet more head in the sand replies. They don't think they owe anything until it becomes overdue.

Never forget the premier league season that Manchester United won the league and one of their last away games was at Wigan where the home fans were in the press for selling their season ticket for the game to away fans at inflated prices. Watching the game on Sky Sports it looked like the sold out ground had more away fans in it.

Just read a thread where Pies is fishing for compliments. There is another thread where another poster singles Pies out. I thought this...if Pies had the ear of the QC why was he plastering it all over social media. I'm not saying it influenced the panel but it certainly didn't help. What a set of wankspangels.

Personally, I can't see why the Wigan fans are turning on us. As others have said, prior to their latest takeover,
they were always living beyond their means.

They were optimistic of a new beginning when on the 4th June 2020 a limited partnership headed up by Hong
Kong businessman Au Yeung Wai Kai took the club over stating that he was excited to be joining the Wigan
Athletic family and was looking forward to supporting the Club " in what is going to be an initially challenging
    period."

Some 26 days later, the new owners conceded that they could not support the Club financially and claimed
"force majeure" on the grounds of the Covid pandemic. As previously stated force majeure events are defined
as certain acts ,events or circumstances beyond the control of the parties involved such as natural disaster, wars
    or a pandemic.

Wigan were the first English professional club to enter administration since the pandemic began. The EFL
immediately announced that a 12 point deduction would be applied at the end of the regulation 46 games
in season 2019/20, if Wigan finished outside of the bottom three of the Championship.

By way of ensuring fair play, the tribunal saw fit to allow Barnsley FC to make their views known. We haven't
seen anything that was submitted from our standpoint, but having already made a threat to sue you would
imagine that part of our statement voiced our concern over the blatant disregard for sporting/competitive integrity
and the lack of governance in the Championship, which of course would alsocover Derby, Sheffield Wednesday et al.

On the 7th July the Wigan administrator Gerald Krasner announced that the Club had appealed against the
    12 point deduction.

On the 4 th August, it was announced that the Wigan appeal had failed and the club would play in League
One for the 2020/21 season and that Barnsley had retained its place in the Championship.
Can't honestly see that we've done much wrong throughout that whole process.
