plenty of birds knocking around if you put the effort in. Last few months Ive seen Herons, Pheasants, Kestrels, Robins, loads of differing song birds potentially a couple of woodpeckers, kingfishers, Doves magpies, some big **** off crows to name but a few
Herons are massive. I saw one in full flight the other week whilst I was stood at the bus stop. A couple of years ago one landed in the large conifer at the bottom of the garden. Next door had a pond (was the only explanation I could fathom).
Red Kites and Peregrines in one of our quarries I love to stand and watch, we don’t seem to bother them or the multitudes of sand martins we get in some of the soft faces every year. We also get loads of deer for some reason. Again, they get used to us and don’t tend to run off unless we go too close.
At Rutland Water last week I saw 9 great egrets, at least 2 ospreys (1 with a massive fish in its talons), tonnes of little egrets and grey herons plus waders like sandpipers, redshanks, godwits and plovers. A bumper day. Plus I can see a couple of woodpigeons getting frisky on the wall outside my bedroom window.
