Today on bbc red button @ 12.20 Stocksbridge Park Steels v Stalybridge Celtic. C’mon the Steels. I can’t support any team with Celtic in their name.
Did Vardy come from non league? Chuff me I wish someone wouldve mentioned that in an interview or article over the years!!!!
Vardy did indeed kickstart his career at Steels after being rejected by Washday Academy. In fact Bracken Moor, one of my favourite non-league grounds, has a Jamie Vardy stand.
I saw Jamie Vardy play for Steels once, in a pre-season friendly. My lad and I sat in the main stand and right behind us were Lee Clark and his assistant, Terry McDermott, scouting Vardy for Huddersfield. IIRC they weren't impressed and left at half time.
Tidy little ground Ian. High up the hill. Only a few miles from tarn if you’re not aware. ( I’d not realised you’d posted a similar thread btw) tarn play/played friendlies there. Think we signed one of their better players or he was on trial for a while after we’d seen him. Noticed a few having a pint behind the goals at the front of the bar. Nice when you can.
Proper football Hooky. Our junior football has not started yet. Similar standard regarding football and grounds. Looking forward to the junior league opening up again. I follow 2 in the region. Lochee United and Broughty Athletic.
Totally enjoying this, very entertaining stuff. I wish they would show a non league game every week on the red button, not just the cup games.
