Americanisms that are sneaking in the English language and on here. eg 'Program' not 'programme' for a TV show (though program for computer software) The amount of people who refer to their mother as 'mom'. This happens so much at work. The guy at work (who from Yorkshire) who pronounces everything the American way. GRRR Plus lots more
Seriously now though, we had a house once and had a pair of nesting robins in our garden. They regularly flew onto the patio even when we were sat outside. Such a lovely sight to see them get so close.
I rarely get any fancy birds in my garden, old mate. The likes of sparrows, blue tits, various finches, blackbirds, magpies, robins & wood pigeons tend to be our visitors.
Well done that man. A few years ago West Midlands Police did a video where an officer on a bike radioed ahead when he was overtaken badly. The offending driver was then educated and allowed to continue. They were using 1.5m as their minimum clearance - I think that is widely in use in Europe. When I learned to drive (in Cambridge where there were millions of cyclists) my instructor told me 6 feet, the length of a coffin....
Once, after a heavy snow fall, I was hand feeding a robin with meal worms. I was overjoyed. Unfortunately, Crystal was out at work, Laura was away at university, so I couldn't share the wonderful moment with anyone.
You should do what I do. I put some of this on my bird table last night And when I woke up Scarlett Johansson was standing in my garden
Lovely, we regularly left food out for 'our' robins, which is probably why they came so close to us when we were outside. They used to hover in the bushes when i was cutting the grass, then swoop down for the grubs n stuff when I'd finished
Sounds reasonable. I always try to treat bikes like I do horses. Slow down a bit (though a lot slower with horses) and give them as much room as possible. Though I have to confess I once made an absolute mess of it and went past a bike with about 6 inches to spare. Made sure I slowed right down alongside him and apologised straight after though. Can't for the life of me remember how I managed to cut him up so badly but it wasn't the best driving ever.
Truth be told, I love it when the sparrows, blackbirds and robins don't fly away when I'm out there. They probably all realise what a big softy I am with them.
Folk who have family gatherings in the supermarket or mother's meetings. If Boris does one thing tomorrow, make it 1 person 1 trolley again, or allow us retail workers to lock em in the back freezer. Tw@ts.
Women (it’s always women) who look surprised and start rooting in there handbag for a purse when the checkout person asks them for payment!!
Oh god it’s not. You just gave me horrible flashbacks of my flat mate in first year of uni. We’d get to the till, everything would be scanned and THEN he’d start packing. Then payment would be asked for so he’d stop, get his wallet out, get some money out, PUT HIS WALLET AWAY, pay, continue packing, then they’d give him some change, so he’d stop packing, get his wallet out, put his change away, put his wallet away, continue packing and then finally walk off. He wouldn’t even step to one side so everyone was waiting whilst it took him ten minutes to pack and pay.
